The Canary Islands 112 Centre for Emergency and Security Coordination have announced the need for caution due to a transport truck fire, thought to be primarily in the drivers cab of the vehicle, which is currently being dealt with near the main turn off to Playa del Inglés, on the south of Gran Canaria.
At around 7.20 pm this evening we received these first pictures from the scene, on southbound carriageway of the main north-south motorway, around km 35,.

CAUTION Emergency resources involved in cabin fire in a transport truck on the GC-1 alt KM 35, dir. South #GRANCANARIA
The 112 Canarias coordination centre have, in the last few minutes, used social media to warn of the potential for danger and the need for driver caution if any motorists are in the area, as the incident is occurring on the roadside and which initially brought traffic to a standstill and is likely to continue to slow traffic while the blaze is brought under control.
It seems the driver tried to steer traffic away from the fire while awaiting emergency services. As drivers passed they could see the full extent of the raging fire that had engulfed the cab
The fire brigade have arrived on the scene, and there are no reports yet of any casualties.
