The spring months of April and May bring some of the most wonderful fairs and festivals to Gran Canaria. This is going to be one busy weekend, with a multitude of different events taking place around the island. Discover local island produce in Telde, direct from the farmers, with the regular Km.0 Fair Gran Canaria this Saturday and Sunday. There is a Sevillian Fair in Vecindario, a Tomato Fair in La Aldea 🍅 as well as a Cheese Fair in Gáldar.

 

The coastal population of El Pajar are celebrating their patron saint’s festivities, in honour of Santa Águeda, and Arucas is hosting their 3rd Sustainability and Culture show, ‘Soltura‘. A weekend full of things to do, places to explore and see.

Fiestas Santa Águeda, Patron Saint festivities in El Pajar 13-23 April 2023

The little coastal population just next to Arguineguin, El Pajar, are celebrating their patron saint’s festivities in honour of Santa Águeda (Saint Agatha) between 13-23 April 2023. The Fiestas de Santa Águeda include a lot of music and concerts, a Romeria pilgrimage offering, traditional barbecue, and various traditional activities … there will be lots of visitors this weekend in traditional costume

This weekend:

Friday 14 April: there will be a lively little street parade at 18:00 led by a musical group and Disney “Fantasía” characters.  At 20:30 local children will sing, followed by a Song Festival. At 21:45 a Tribute show “Por Siempre Selena” by Ángeles Pérez, and afterward, more music.

Saturday 15 April: Foam party at 11:00. at 11:30 Radio Dunas live from the beach boulevards.
Romería at 18:00 and afterparty at 22:30 with music groups; Acuarela, La Mekánica by Tamarindos and D’Music .

Sunday 16 April: religious church service at 09:00
from 1″:00-18:00 IV Encuentro “Pajareros al Sol” on the beach.

Feria de Abril - April Fair and Gastronomy in Vecindario 14-16 April

The 3rd April Fair and Gastronomy of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, Feria de Abril y Gastronómica in Vecindario from Friday to Sunday. 

On Plaza de Los Algodoneros and the pedestrian area of Avenida de Canarias, you will find Spanish flamenco fashion, street parade, Sevillian dance, a gastronomic area, dance workshops, music performances, and so much more

Opening hours: On Friday from 17:00-00:00, Saturday from 11:00-01:00, Sunday from 11:00-16:00

Km.0 Fair Gran Canaria in Telde 15-16 April

A new edition of the Km.0 Fair Gran Canaria takes place this time in the municipality of Telde on Saturday and Sunday. 

The fair is held on Plaza de San Juan and is open from 09:00 to 14:00 on both days.

This regular fair, ‘Feria Km.0 Gran Canaria’ is about local produce, everything from Gran Canaria that requires no transport to get here (hence the name). This edition takes place in Telde, one of the host municipalities for these fairs, which also include venues in Telde, Moya, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Ingenio. Local produce from across the island.

“A perfect opportunity to also take a walk in the beautiful areas of San Juan, the historic neighbourhood of San Francisco and San Gregorio.”

Tomato Fair in La Aldea - 15 April 🍅

The 5th edition of ‘Feria del Tomate’, the Tomato Fair in La Aldea de San Nicolás, in the westernmost municipality of Gran Canaria this Saturday.

 

 

🍅 From 10:00 to 17:00, enjoy the primary sector, crafts, and accessories market in the Plaza de La Alameda.
🍅 At 11:00 the youngest members of the household will be the protagonists, who will be able to participate in the children’s cooking workshop, in which they will prepare recipes with tomatoes as the main ingredient.
🍅 The folkloric group Los Granjeros de Montaña Cardones will also perform in the Plaza de La Alameda starting at 11:30, and at 12:00 the award ceremony and recognition of the municipality’s tomato crop will take place.
🍅 At 11.30 am there will be tastings of tomato jam in La Alameda.
🍅 Inflatables and children’s entertainment have also been programmed between 12:00 and 17:00
🍅 There is a cocktail workshop starting at 13:00.
🍅 As a final climax, residents and tourists who visit the fair will be able to enjoy the stellar performances by Son Aldea and Los Lola.

 

 

Cheese Fair in Gáldar - 16 April

The 25th Gáldar Cheese Fair on Sunday, 16 April in Plaza de Santiago. Highlighting the quality of one of the most famous artisan products, the cheese from Altos de Gáldar, protected by the Denomination of Origin and very successful in contests and fairs.

This traditional fair has its main Day on the 16th, with the awarding of the prizes to the XXV Altos de Gáldar Cheese Tasting, the XXV anniversary of Artisan Cheeses from Gran Canaria, and the XXIV Tasting of Flor, Media Flor and Cured Cheese of the PDO. In addition, there will be traditional musical performances.

On Sunday, enjoy cheese tastings, the sale of artisanal cheeses from all over the Island of Gran Canaria, traditional music performances, and the ancient prehispanic Gran Canarian Royal Capital

Soltura Festival in Arucas - 16 April

Arucas will host the third edition of the ‘Soltura’ festival, this Sunday, organised by the Ministry of Culture through the CAAM, Atlantic Centre of Modern Art

After the success of the two previous editions, held in Firgas and Valsequillo, the city of Arucas will host the third edition of the ‘Soltura’ Festival of Sustainability and Culture on April 16, organised by the Culture Department of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, through the CAAM, Atlantic Centre of Modern Art, and the collaboration of the Arucas Town Council.

The event, which will take place in the historic centre of the Town, between 09:30 and 21:00, will fill the streets with different activities open to citizen participation, such as concerts, children’s workshops, storytelling, visits to cultural spaces, and artistic activities among others. A wide range of entertainment, informative, artistic and musical activities will be displayed in the Parque de las Flores, the Museum and the Municipal Library of Arucas, Nuevo Teatro Viejo de Arucas, the Plaza de la Constitución, Calle León y Castillo and the Plaza de San Juan.

The ‘Soltura’ 2023 program includes this year, throughout the day, no less than eleven concerts by Los Sabandeños, La Sra. Tomasa, Chambao, Marta Bolaños, Germán López, Escuela de Verseadores, Faneroque, Yull Ballesteros Trío , Alba Gil Aceytuno, Biphasic and OM Domínguez & Village Band.

It also offers participatory opportunities for education and communication aimed at the responsible use of natural resources. Specifically, there will be children’s workshops, guided visits to the Municipal Museum of Arucas, the theatrical performance ‘Arucas, harvest 1900’ by AFC Labrantes, as well as a guided tour of the old town.

 

 

 

 

Bio Market in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, British club - 16 April

Farmers' market in Arucas - 15 April

The ‘Mercado Agrícola de Arucas’ takes place every fortnight in the facilities of the Cabildo’s Experimental Agricultural Farm, located just off the exit to Arucas from the GC-2, on the north coast of Gran Canaria.

The market this Saturday comprises some 65 exhibitors (farmers and ranchers) who market their products directly to the consumer, with the aim of lowering the costs.

From 09:00-13:30.

 

Markets in the south of Gran Canaria

• Friday is always market day in Playa de Mogán in the morning. This popular market is in one of the prettiest fishing harbour towns on Gran Canaria, very popular with tourists.

• On Saturday, the Maspalomas market offers all kinds of textiles, Objet dart and other articles, located now in a new venue at Parque Europeo in Playa del Inglés, while the municipal market is being re-built. It is one of the markets most enjoyed among visitors along with Friday’s in Playa de Mogán;
El Mercadillo de Maspalomas is on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 08:00 to 14:00.

• On Saturday in Arguineguín, a small second-hand market on Plaza Negra (the marketplace) in the morning 09:00-14:00 with a wide range pre-loved treasures.

• On Sunday, the “rastro” second-hand market, ****The second-hand market now takes place in the Ciudad deportiva de Maspalomas, next to football field 2 and close to Pepe Chiringo and Parque Sur de Maspalomas.

• This Sunday, the very popular biweekly farmers’ Market, ‘Mercado Agrícola y ganadero de San Fernando‘ will be held in the parking area next to the football Stadium and the municipal offices from 08:00 – 14:00. A chance to purchase fresh, locally-grown food and value-added produce directly from growers or producers —  an authentic retail experience.

These are the ‘LPA en Vivo‘, (‘LPA Live’) concerts and shows scheduled for the month of April 2023 in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. These gigs are part of another program of “LPA En Vivo”, a project to boost the cultural offer in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria venues and support artists.
