The port and harbour of Gran Canaria's western-most village of La Aldea de San Nicolás de Tolentino looks out toward Mount Teide on Tenerife.
Probably the coastline least affected by tourism, this old agricultural town, known to locals as simply La Aldea, The Village, was the site of major tomato and banana plantations, and where the famous La Aldea rum was first manufactured.
With regular markets and events it plays host to the popular El Charco festival every year.
