Plum tree blossoming in Tenteniguada March 2023

It’s the last weekend of March already and Spring is here; winter is behind us and the summer weather is already hotting up on Gran Canaria. The hillsides are in full bloom, particularly up in the mountain summits; it’s Carnival Weekend in Arguineguín and the last of the carnival festivities for this year are happening around the island. With summer just around the corner, clocks Spring forward this Saturday and Sunday night when 1am becomes 2am 🕐. On the north of the island, one of the biggest seasonal trade fairs is happening, gathering produce and people from 11 municipalities, ENORTE will be celebrated in the historic Rum capital of the island, Arucas, this weekend.  There are always plenty of markets to visit and explore around the island. Easter is almost upon us and the first of several religious processions and representation acts and street plays can be enjoyed this Friday in Tamaraceite. The World Wide initiative for “Earth Hour” is also celebrated this Saturday on Gran Canaria so you will see goverment buildings, monuments and public spaces turning off their lights for one hour between 20:30 & 21:30. An opportunity for an hour of candle-lit reflection on just how much energy we all burn up with our lights blazing. A glorious weekend ahead indeed! Hello Spring!

Almost a hundred residents of the Tamaraceite-San Lorenzo-Tenoya District of the capital of Gran Canaria will represent The Passion of Christ this Friday at 20:00, in Parque Tamaraceite Sur, in front of commercial centre Alisios.

A theatrical performance organised by the Tasate Cultural Association, with the collaboration of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council, on which they have been working since the end of January.

Eleven scenes distributed throughout the capital park will give life to this christian biblical story, from the entrance of the messiah into Jerusalem on a donkey, through to the Last Supper, Pilate’s house, the Crucifixion, and the tomb.

A staging that, in addition to being faithful to the Gospel of Saint John, will have some different nuances and surprises.

It should be remembered that in this act all the participants are amateurs, none of them is an actor or actress by profession, and there is great enthusiasm and desire after so many hours of preparation, recording, and rehearsals.
