After some very poor performances away from home, LP were looking like they might just get back to winning ways when they entertained Alaves last weekend who sat 2 positions above them in 11th place.
The home side made a lively start and on 2mins Jese produced a good effort from the right edge of the box but his shot was just wide.
17mins in and a good passing move from the home side sets up the skillful Halilovic but his shot is just too high.
Alaves get their first effort on goal after 22mins, a free kick from the left but Raul in the home goal makes a good save.
The next 20 mins see no real chances, with both sides having possession in midfield and cancelling each other out.
After 43 mins, a long ball over the top from Tana finds the Prince in space, with the keeper in no–man’s-land, he chips the keeper and the ball rolls into an empty net. 1-0 to LP.
Half Time – Las Palmas 1 Alaves 0
The Halftime Verdict – A poor 1st half with very little goal mouth action. Both teams seem to be thinking “Vamos a la playa” and their holidays, on this warm sunny afternoon. With LP playing their usual procession game but without the pace and skill brought by Viera in midfield, they are missing that edge. The away side have created very little to trouble the home defence.
Alaves start brighter in the 2nd half though a great clearing header at the far post by Castellano denies them an equaliser in the 50th minute. The home side react well and a great one-touch move is brought to an end with a disappointingly weak shot.
Then Alaves take their best chance, the ball played to the far post, their centre forward produces a good shot but see’s Raul pull off a great save.
LP keep over playing in the wrong positions and Alaves take advantage of some poor play. The ball is crossed in from the left, but with the centre forward in a clear offside position, jumping over the ball and somehow the ball finds the bottom corner. The home side protest offside but the goal is given.
It was very hard on the home side as the forward was clearly interfering with play. The crowd comes alive and give the officials plenty of stick.
Alaves put pressure on the home side but are denied their another with a great save from Raul, diving at the feet of the centre forwar.
LP hold on and the games ends in a poor 1-1 draw.
The Verdict of The Saint – /for the first time in ages, LP produce a poor performance in front of their home fans. Both teams seemed happy playing out for a disappointing draw. The 16,007 fans, most of them leaving the stadium early to get home to watch El Classico on TV and hoping that will be a better game. With 2 very tough home games remaining against Atletico Madrid and the mighty Barca, LP need to produce a much better team performance if they want to pick up any more points at home.
Next home match – Saturday 29th April V At.Madrid 17.30 KO.
Tickets for this game have been kept to normal prices, so a great chance to watch the Champions league semi-finalists. PIO PIO!
