Just one week to go before midsummer night (known locally as San Juan) and there are plenty of goings on to explore and see over this coming weekend. The harvest fair in El Tablero will bring a traditional touch to the south, with foundational celebrations going on in the capital, patron saint’s festivities including one in Arucas and the colour festival of Ingenio all well worth leaving the resorts to go and visit.
La Feria de la Zafra de El Tablero
This year marks the twentieth anniversary of the Harvest fair and the festivities in El Tablero, starting at the Cultural Centre on Friday at 20:00 with an exhibition entitled ‘Between Tomatoes’ mounted by the Tildet Association with the graphic work of Teldense photographer José Hernández Torres, and an anniversary concert from the Folkloric Group La Cucaña, starting at 20.30 dedicated to ‘Stories of El Tablero’.
On Saturday, the main day, festive acts start on the town square, in front of the church at 18:00. Handicrafts and traditional Canarian games, cooking workshops and tomato marmalade, tastings of typical foods of the zafra; sale of local wines, oils and gastronomic products and even a shepherd’s show. The evening also includes several performances from folk groups and at 20:30 a concert from ‘Los Gofiones’, a very popular Canarian group as well as some traditional Taifa dancing from 22:00.
The students of the arts schools in Mogán are giving free performances of their work and lessons learned during throughout the weekend at Plaza de las Gañanias in Playa de Mogán.
Students from music, dance and theatre schools perform concerts starting at 21:00. Friday dance and theatre, Saturday mix modern and Latino and on Sunday music groups Noray and Afortunadas are performing as a an extra treat for the audience.

On Sunday Corpus Christi ( (Latin for Body of Christ) is celebrated in the Historic centre of Arucas. It’s the day when the area is decorated with beautiful handmade salt carpets and motifs as well as various images in the streets made of flowers etc with balconies and windows decoratng this old port town from the early hours of the day followed later with a religious street procession from 18:30.

Ingenio Colour Festival
The biggest colour festival on the Islands is happening this weekend on Avenida de Carlos V, the main road through Carrizal.
