UV

The weather forecast for the Easter week ahead is glorious, with the days predicted to get warmer and warmer it would be advisable to remember that the Sun is not always our best friend.

AEMET, the Spanish State Meteorological Agency, has reported that UV radiation in the Canary Islands is expected to be very high throughout the week ahead.

The UV Index is an international standard measurement of the strength of ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun in a particular place and time.

The colours for the UV index chart are as follows:

Green is low  (0 to 2),                                                                                                                                                                               Yellow for moderate (3 to 5),                                                                                                                                                     Orange with a high risk (between 6 and 7),                                                                                                                                   Red for very high (between 8 and 10) and                                                                                                                               Purple is extreme, greater than 11.

Throughout this week, the UV index in the Canary Islands ranges between 8 and 9. In particular, Monday and Tuesday the index will be 9 on all islands. Wednesday will be 9 in Gran Canaria, El Hierro and in La Gomera. Thursday and Friday the index is predicted to be around 8 on all the islands.
