Part of the GC-605, a beautiful mountain road popular with the more adventurous tourists (specifically between the kilometer 7 and kilometer 9 marker points) has closed for at least until mid-May 2017. The long overdue maintenance work, including construction of a masonry wall, is being carried out by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria (island government), forcing the closure of this road between Ayacata & La Cruz de San Antonio in the municipality of Mogán, primarily between Tomadero de La Data and Presa de Las Niñas.
The Cabildo de Gran Canaria has begun the long awaited work on improving the GC-605, so as to benefit both tourists and locals who the road which has been in very bad condition for a while.
The road improvement works, which have already begun, intend to complete the construction of a masonry wall to help improve safety, for which it will be necessary to close the road completely until the work is finished.
It is still possible to drive up to the gorgeous Presa de la Niñas while the construction is being carried out via Pueblo de Mogán or up the Arguineguín valley via Cercados de Espino, however just after Las Niñas, the through route to Ayacata and the rest of the interior of the island will be closed until works are completed.
