Well done to Rocio Garcia, who won the competition to design the 2014 poster for Las Palmas Carnival. The theme for this Carnival will be Fantasy, and Rocio chose a fairy. How fabulous! So if you are planning to join in this massive party, expect to see many fairies, fauns, elves and other hobbit-like creatures.
You can keep updated on the Carnival on The Canary Islander website [as well as The Canary News] for all the entertainment and competitions, but the Drag Queen competition is very popular and takes place on Friday 28 February, and the main Carnival parade is on Saturday 1 March starting from Santa Catalina Park and leads through the city to Triana. The White Party when everyone wears white and throws talcum powder at each other happens in Triana on Monday 3 March. There are many more activities in the city in the weeks running up to the big event.
So look forward to great fun at the Las Palmas Carnival 2014, which is second only to carnival in Rio de Janeiro, and start making your fairy costume now.
