There are many events, markets and fairs to start Summer 2017, whilst some of the most traditional are the patron saints’ Romerias and fiestas in full swing throughout various towns around the island, several even going on simultaneously; but there will also be plenty of other activities.
Midsummer night festivities are celebrated on Gran Canaria with smoke and fires across the island, and perhaps a little bit more sentiment than elsewhere as this day marks the start of the island conquest and the founding of the capital city, so one event not to forget is the Las Palmas Noche de San Juan.
Saint Anthony of Padua, the patron saint of lost things, also features heavily in many towns’ catholic observances and celebrations across Gran Canaria.
Here are some hand picked events going on around the island for those of you who fancy a touch of authentic traditional culture.
In June there are also many local bank holidays in various municipalities.
