05/03/2017 —-Tickets for next home game!

A midweek disappointment  saw LP give away a 3-1 lead away to Real Madrid last week, against 10 men to end up drawing 3-3. The home side were looking, last Saturday, to achieve a much needed home win to keep themselves out of a relegation battle.

Las Palmas started lively as Vicente shoots just wide. Then on 8mins, some great work by Jonathan Viera sets up Jese who’s right footed shot finds the bottom corner of the net. 1-0 LP.

LP continue to press and Lemos gets close with a long range shot.

Then it’s Viera’s turn to shoot, just wide, from a good position.

LP are in control and need to get a 2nd.

31mins in, and totally against the run of play, Osasuna equalise! After breaking down the left side, crossing the ball into the centre,  Varas parries the ball giving Kodro a simple tap in.  1-1.

3 minutes later, some great passing by the home side sets up Jese who is clean through, but he shoots straight at the keeper. He should have scored there.

2 minutes on and Osasuna break again for the 2nd time repeating the same result, that big number 9, Kodro, controls the ball and finds the bottom corner, 2-1 to the away side.

More attacking play from the home team, but they still can’t find the net.

Half time –
Las Palmas 1 – Osasuna 2

HalfTime Opinion of The Saint – After dominating the first half, LP will be very disappointed being behind.  They created many chances but some poor finishing has let bottom of the table Osasuna in; and now the Yellows have their work cut out to get back into this game.

They need to be more direct in the 2nd half and take those chances properly.

LP start the 2nd half bright and get on to the front foot, nearly scoring straight from the kick off.

Tano goes close after a good move down the right but he meets a good save by the Osasuna keeper.

Then on 55mins LP draw back level. A quick corner from Mesa finds Livaja unmarked in the box; and he puts his header into the bottom corner. 2-2

LP now have all the play. Simon goes close with a right-foot-shot, set up by Jese.

69mins, and a soft cross from the right leads the poor Osasuna defender, Garica, to slip when just about to clear the ball, and somehow it finds the bottom corner of the net! 3-2 LP.  When your at the bottom the luck never stays with you and Osasuna were really unlucky there.

LP still pressing forward to win another corner.

The ball is played short to Mesa on the edge of the box, he hits a low shot through the crowded penalty area and finds the bottom left hand corner. 4-2 LP.

LP playing some lovely football now; and after a flowing move, great work by Viera finds Jese once more; who slots home number 5 and his 2nd goal of the game. 5-2 LP.

Full Time =
Las Palmas 5 – Osasuna 2

The Verdict of The Saint  = After a sloppy start, not making the most of their dominating play, LP found themselves 2-1 down at half time.

But then came out fighting in the 2nd half with more direct play and took their chances when they had them, to end up winning comfortably

19,911 fans went home with a smile on their faces after an entertaining game; now knowing they can relax a bit as LP are getting close to reaching the magical 40pts mark which normally guarantees safety in the top of the league.

Next Home Match = Friday 17th March Villarreal 19.45 KO.

If you’re thinking of coming to the home games, remember to check the weather in Las Palmas, and take warm clothing. Sunday’s match was a bloody cold, and there was The Saint standing during the 2nd half, as eager as can be and dressed in shorts. Not ideal, should have known better after returning from colder climes!
