The Canary Weekend Tips 21-23 April 2017
A busy April weekend ahead with many big events going on. In Las Palmas we have a motorbike fair as well as a beach tennis tournament and the ever so tasty Gran Canaria Me Gusta fair. A rally sprint up in the mountains, a major sporting event in Mogán and a “night in Arguineguin” on Saturday.
Sunday is also World Book Day so perhaps just grab a book to read or find a previously loved one from the Sunday second hand market in San Fernando. Our amazing La Liga football team has a match on Sunday in Las Palmas Stadium; UD Las Palmas vs D. Alavés, Pio Pio !
Exhibitions, motorcycle outings, new models and an extensive exhibitors space with up to 37 exhibitors like Yamaha, Ducati, Harley-Davidson, Honda, Suzuki, Triumph, Hamway, Piaggio, Peugeot Scooters, Kawasaki and many more.
There is also a concert at nightfall on Saturday at 21:00.
As a novelty, this year the Elder Museum of Science and Technology is incorporated as an exhibitor space for motorcycles and classic bikes
Those going with their motorcycles have access to the free motorcycle parking on Avenida Marítima in the direction of El Sebadal, just after the Arsenal where the taxi and tourist bus access is
By car, the parking is at Muelle Sanapú (next to the new aquarium) with a price of only 1€ giving you 2 hour parking and for €2.50 you can leave it all day.

Gran Canaria Me Gusta
During the weekend, the island capital’s main exhibition ground will become a large market for local food, gastronomy, agricultural and fishery production, industry, livestock and ecological agriculture, handicrafts and rural tourism.
The Fair is open on Friday and Saturday 11:00-20:00 and on Sunday 11:00-17:00 for just €2,50 and is free for children, pensioners, people with disabilities and the registered unemployed. Read our article here
Open Gran Canaria 2017 de Tenis Playa
More than 200 players from a dozen different countries will take part in the Open Gran Canaria 2017 Beach Tennis tournament, held until the 23 April at Playa de Las Canteras . A scoring date for the National Beach Tennis Circuit, which brings together a large number of elite athletes in the middle of this most famous beach in Las Palmas. This is one of the biggest events for Beach Tennis in Spain.

La noche en Arguineguin
On Saturday a ‘night in Arguineguín‘ event with a craft fair in the morning starting at 12:00 at Plaza Pérez Galdós and
traditional taifa dancing in the evening at 21:00 with a multitude of carousels and folkloric groups performing and entertaining.
Saturday 22 April, Mogán, Amadores
The second International Triathlon Challenge Mogán-Gran Canaria 2017 is happening on Saturday. With the main core of events happening at Amadores, the race includes swimming, cycling and running with half and short triathlon as well as a relay.
With any major sporting event it will also mean traffic restrictions.
The coastal road GC-500 from entrance to Anfi del Mar to the service station in Mogán will have traffic closures during the morning between 06:00-14:00. So be aware of the signals and the traffic police. There are many alternative routes to take in order to avoid traffic jams, the best one being the GC-1.
II Rally Sprint Artenara
for any rally enthutiastics, this Saturday the second edition of the rally sprint Artenara on the roads north of Gran Canaria with 39 participants and the first of six stages starting at 10:30. Main venue is Plaza San Matías for technical checks and trophies.
Sporting event also means road closures during the rally throughout the area.
Rastro Second hand market & Farmers market
The Sunday must for all previously-owned-item lovers. The second hand rastro market just next to the town hall, where you’ll find brick-a-brack and so much more. This Sunday joined by the local farmers market, as it is every second weekend.

CANARIAS7 Carrera de las Empresas
3rd edition of CANARIAS7 runrace for companies with record of participation; 3,500 runners, representing about 260 companies, will take to the start in a varied competition, where the promotion of teamwork and fun is paramount, although the competitive aspect is also present.
Sunday 10K test, at 10:00 in the morning, at 12.00 the 5K and the day will be completed at 13:00 with the celebration of the non-competitive kids run ‘Junior Cajasiete’.
‘la Fuente Luminosa‘ acts as a nerve center, the race runs through an ideal circuit for the participant, Calles Luis Doreste Silva, León and Castillo and Triana as main arteries.
