First weekend of June and its looking marvellous on Gran Canaria. The summer Patron Saints’ fiestas are are in full swing across the island. As with every first weekend of the month, Triana commercial district in Las Palmas celebrate their regular leisure and commercial initiative, the ‘Open weekend’ as well as Cabildo de Gran Canaria’s network of museums throwing open their open doors for free visits all weekend. There is also potato festival in Tejeda, rally, bargain and opportunities fair at Infecar and Ben Magec, the Canarian Ecological Federation, are celebrating their 25th anniversary with a boom in Las Palmas.
II Fiesta de la papa Tejeda
Tejeda, located amidst the island’s central mountains, is an idyllic rural village where you can disconnect and recharge your batteries. This lovely little enclave is hosting their second annual potato fair.
On Sunday farmers and artisanal market on the main street, an agricultural machinery exhibition, an exhibition of different potato varieties, a tapas route in the restaurants and bars of the town and various delicious potato dishes for €1.
Glocal Bus number 18 from Maspalomas will get you there at a thrillingly good ticket price.
Fiestas patronales de San Antonio El Chico (2-13 June)
Patronal festivities begin in Pueblo de Mogán starting this Friday. See the full program here (in Spanish). Events daily in Pueblo de Mogán during the festivities.
On Saturday mass at 18:30 at the church as well as the romeria pilgrimage offering with the image of San Antonio starting at 18:00. The route starts from Los Llanos, continuing along the main road though the town, calle Guardia Juan Martín Quesada and up Calle San Antonio de Padua to Parque Nicolás Quesada, where the offerings are made as well as plenty of music and dancing. Afterwards a return procession to the church (iglesia de San Antonio de Pádua, Mogan). At 23:00 traditional Taifa dancing at Parque Nicolás Quesada followed by after festivities at Plaza Sarmiento y Coto at midnight.
There will be traffic restrictions in the area due to the romeria on Saturday.
Rallye isla de Gran Canaria
The 56th edition of Rally of Gran Canaria Island on Friday and Saturday.
On Friday the show section of 1,6 km starting at 17:30 from the Gran Canaria stadium to open the competition.
On Saturday the stage of the rally is moved to the municipality of Vega de San Mateo, as an epicenter for eight timed sections, 4×2 to be driven through the middle of the Island. The rally concludes at 19:45 with the final arrival and trophies given in San Mateo.

The 18th annual ‘bargains and opportunities fair’, FISALDO, started this week with space for second hand cars as well as daily raffles of €150 worth of vouchers to spend on all kinds of items, whether its fashion, furniture, hardware or the curious mini drones that this year are incorporated as a novelty.
There will be no shortage of cosmetics, accessories, baby clothes, toys, ethnic decoration … Entrance is only €1,50 and its free for people with disabilities, pensioners, children under 12 and unemployed people
Every day from 10:00 to 21:00 until Sunday 4 June.
Festivities in honour of San Fernando de Maspalomas
San Fernando festivitities come to an end this weekend. Most of the events are happening around the Plaza de San Fernando, the courtyard of the main parish church.
Friday 2 June, Wines and tapas night from 21:00 at the Plaza with a concert from the bands Los Lolas and Chromatic Mixture of teloneros.
Saturday 3 June the 5th Folklore Festival at 21:00 and at the end, a traditional fireworks show.
Sunday 4 June the San Fernando patron saint festivities come to an end with a display of classic cars (from 10:30), a foam party at 12:00 in the plaza and at 18:00 children’s entertainment, a Zumba master class (at 18:30) and at 20:30 the Festival of Great Talents.

Fin de semana abierto
Triana’s open weekend includes on Saturday 11:00-14:00 hours, numerous activities for the little ones on the main calle Mayor de Triana. While there be a skate circuit at Triana 20, where the children can test their skills on wheels, at numbers 35, 56 and 88, craft workshops to test your creativity and at number 72, a space for traditional games.
On Sunday, children’s activities from 11:00. At number 13, an exhibition of vinyls and secondhand clothes (until 18:00) and musical performances in the Shack Bar (from 13:00 to 18:00). Also, in the main street a Chess Workshop, Mini Circuit with rockers, ball pools and slides etc.

As with every first weekend of a month, the island network of museums run by the island council, the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, will open their doors for free visits.

Patron Saint festivities in honour of San Antonio de Padua, Villa de Moya

On Saturday at 10.30, children’s party with traditional games, inflatables, workshops and music on Calle Miguel Hernández and at 13:00 a Foam Party, in front of the Municipal Sports Centre. A gala and the election of the children’s Queen at 17:30 and at 21.30 ‘Festival PopRock’, with performances from popular local bands like Última Llave, Los 600 and Los Salvapantallas.
On Sunday starting at 8:00 the Livestock Fair of San Antonio de Padua, with an exhibition, contest and prizes for the best cattle on Gran Canaria. During the morning; raffles, horseshoe hook games, sheep shearing, threshing as well as an exhibition of cattle, goats and sheep directed towards the kids. On the esplanade of La Fragata.
Festival Ben Magec – 25 Vueltas al Sol
The day includes a bicycle gathering (Bicifestación) from 10:30-12:00 for environment protection and a city clean as well as a street procession leaving at 18:30 from plaza de Stagno (back of Teatro Pérez Galdós) to Plaza Santa Ana, followed by concerts at 20:00 with musical performances of the “Thiune Brothers”, Sabroson, Aristides Moreno, Guineo Colectivo and a DJ’s.
A Walk In The Park – with Lilly Rikhter – Verano edition
Free stretching and exercise hour with Lilly in the beautiful settings of Parque Sur in Maspalomas starting at midday, just next to the climbing wall.
San Vicente de Ferrer
Patron saint’s festivities are celebrated also in Valleseco in honour of San Vicente de Ferrer. On Sunday a full day of activities by the plaza municipal, just next to the church of San Vicente Ferrer. See the full program for the festivities here.
At 11:00 a motorbike exhibition in the municipal square and at 14:00 a pig barbecue party with live music, children’s entertainment and lot of food on offer for just €3 a plate
The first rainbow fair with a parade through the town’s streets starting at 18:00 followed by evening full of fiesta, music and at midnight fireworks.
Saint Anthony of Padua, patron saint of lost souls, lost and stolen articles among others, was a powerful Franciscan preacher and teacher. He was one of the most famous disciples of St. Francis of Assisi, and much revered here on the island.
