The Canary weekend tips 10-12 February

….Carnival time has arrived and, with rain predicted, it could be a wet start for the festivities in the capital!  Friday evening Las Palmas will commence their “Eternal Spring” themed, Flower Power, Love and all things 60s celebrations in Plaza de Santa Ana. If you are heading to Las Palmas Carnival via public transport: from the new bus stop in Puerto de Mogán, via Puerto Rico, Arguineguin, Maspalomas, Playa del Inglés and all the way up to San Telmo bus station in Las Palmas, there is Global bus lines 1 and 91, both have different bus stops on the way. From the bus station Faro de Maspalomas to Las Palmas bus number 30

Friday 10, Las Palmas 

El Pregón / The Carnival of Las Palmas 2017  

At 20:30, the Carnival Queen of 2016, as well as the Drag Queen and the Grande Dame, accompanied by the aspirants to take their thrones in 2017, will set up the main parade float and travel the ~350 meter route between the Gabinete Literario and Plaza de Santa Ana, preceded by an entourage of different music and other performance groups, a show in its own right to start proceedings.

at 21:00 El Pregón-, (“The Proclamation”) starts the festivities.
Famous Spanish singer Rosana will officially open the Las Palmas Carnival festivities dedicated to ‘Eternal Spring’, with a proclamation,  followed by a FREE concert in Plaza de Santa Ana 


Saturday 11, Las Palmas 

‘Childrens group contest’  / Las Palmas Carnival 2017

The various children’s groups will open events in Parque Santa Catalina on Saturday at 19:00.

There are 400 members in seven ‘comparsa’ groups who will perform an unforgettable show to the rhythms and choreographies they have worked with throughout the year. #Watch video#


Sunday 12, Las Palmas 

Children’s party‘ / Las Palmas Carnival 2017

On Sunday at 11:00  ‘Children’s party‘.  Kids are in the spot light with their costumes and performances on the main stage. This non-competitive event for the whole family with music and fun on stage set up in parque Santa Catalina.  All in all 1,661 children have registered to perform either in individual performances or in one of the 60 groups performing on Sunday.


Sunday 12 February, Las Palmas 

Grande Dame’s Gala / Las Palmas Carnival 2017

Ten candidates take the stage in elaborate costumes hoping to be chosen as the Great Lady of Las Palmas Carnival 2017 on Sunday, accompanied by musical performances.

Gala starting at 20:00 on the stage in parque Santa Catalina.

The gala will be broadcasted on Televisión Canaria starting at 21.30


Sunday 12 February, Mogán

Encuentro de mountainbike 

The 5th annual mountain bike test will happen on Sunday. Hundreds of participants with two modalities, Pro-XC 35 km and the amateur ~20km. Departure and arrival from Arguineguín school IES de Arguineguin, around 10:00, over the mountains and back again. Event from 09:00-15:00

When there is a sport event happening, it can also means some sort of extra surveillance and possible road closures in the area.


Sunday 12 February

Festival de la Diplomacia Culinaria 2017

On Sunday as part of the culinary festival happening in hotel Lopesan Baobab 11-14 February, there will be a football match played at 12:00 in Ciudad deportiva Maspalomas, between the Moroccan and Canarian community.

Starting at 17:00 to 18:30 in the lovely Parque Sur, just next door, tastings of Moroccan cuisine and typical Moroccan sweets.

 

Well worth a visit for all football fans and food lovers!
