State of alert declared for Canary Islands storms and showers

rain in the mountainsThe Canary Islands Government Directorate of Security  has declared an archipelago wide alert for storms under their Canary Island Emergency Plan Risk protocol for unfavourable weather conditions.

weatherchart-storm-alert-181114 weather-storm-alert-181114The alert will start in the Western Isles from 16.00 on Tuesday, and then in the eastern province from 00.00 on Wednesday, November 19, said the regional government in a statement.

Before the storm, the Canarian Government recommends closing doors and stopping drafts; electrical appliances should be unplugged if the storm is accompanied by lightning and road travel should be avoided, among other precautionary measures.

The Islands are also on alert for rain from 16.00 on Tuesday. Rainfall is expected to begin on the islands of La Gomera, El Hierro and La Palma, according to forecasts by the Meteorological Agency Aemet, and then forecast to move east to the other islands.
