Bob Geldof comes to Las Palmas on December 3 as part of the Arrecife de las Músicas Festival

The Arrecife de las Músicas Festival (Reef of Musics) at the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium, in Las Palmas, this year celebrates fifteen years of travelling through the sounds of world music, presented by D&D productions who also produce the Maspalomas Soul Festival. This year´s poster includes Bob Geldof, Iberian & Klavier Piano Duo, and Raúl Rodríguez. There will be three concerts in which there will be music with diverse roots, which show the eclectic nature of the festival.

Irish singer and activist Bob Geldof will be one highlight of the 15th edition. Originally planned for October his appearance has been moved to December 3rd, at 9:00 p.m. at the capital´s Symphony Hall to present his 2010 album How To Compose Popular Songs That Will Sell as well as some of his greatest hits with The Boomtown Rats.

The opening concert of the festival will take place on September 23 at 9:00 pm in the Jerónimo Saavedra Acevedo Room, and will be hosted by Iberian & Klavier Piano Duo, who will perform their Tribute to Bernstein and Piazzolla. This artistic couple, formed by the pianists Laura Sierra and Manuel Tévar, won First Prize in the Bradshaw & Buono International Piano Competition of New York.

On September 30, at 9:00 pm, the outstanding Raúl Rodríguez will take to the stage of the Sala Jerónimo Saavedra to present La raíz eléctrica.

The program of the festival is to be completed by the presence of Radio Nacional de España (RNE) journalist, Lara López, who returns to her idyll with poetry from her book Insectos, which she will present on October 10, at at 8:00 p.m., in the Chamber Room. The event will also have a musical accompaniment and the entrance will be free until full capacity.

As a novelty in this edition, the Arrecife de las Músicas – a festival sponsored by the Government of the Canary Islands, Canaragua, Riu Hotels, Grupo Ralons and Cicar – will offer a special ticket price that includes all three main concerts that make up the poster, for a single price of 50 euros.

Tickets for these concerts can be purchased at the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium, from Monday to Saturday, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.; as well as on the web www.auditorioteatrolaspalmasgc.es and www.auditorio-alfredokraus.com; and from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at the Teatro Pérez Galdós.

Iberian & Klavier Piano Duo

Iberian & Klavier Piano Duo are one of the most exclusive and internationally renowned pianist duos. Since their formation in 2009, they have performed at prestigious venues and festivals, in four handed piano recitals with two pianos and with orchestras, always to the great acclaim of critics and audiences.

Raúl Rodríguez

The musician and anthropologist Raúl Rodríguez has been working in flamenco music for two decades. His anthropological study and musical experimentation go hand in hand as he explores the Flamenco sound through creative investigation of Afro Caribbean and Andalucian rhythms.

Bob Geldof

Bob Geldof is an Irish singer, songwriter, author, occasional actor and political activist. He became known as the singer of new wave band The Boomtown Rats in the late 70’s and early 80’s along with the punk rock movement. The band had hits with Rat Trap and I Don’t Like Mondays . In addition, he co-wrote one of the best-selling singles of all time, Do They Know It’s Christmas? As an actor, he played Pink in the 1982 film Pink Floyd the Wall .

Geldof is widely recognized for his activism, especially the fight against poverty. In 1984, he and Midge Ure founded the Band Aid charity supergroup to raise funds for famine relief in Ethiopia and then hosted the Live Aid super-concert the following year and the Live 8 concerts in 2005. Geldof is currently an adviser to the ONE Campaign, founded by fellow Irishman Bono.

Geldof published in 2010 his album How To Compose Popular Songs That Will Sell with Mercury Records. It was his first album since 2001, Sex, Age & Death and is his fifth release as a solo artist. The album features 14 compositions recorded with his band in his house and in several studios of friends, produced by Pete Briquette.

‘Insectos’, by Lara López

Lara López (Cádiz, 1967), author of Óxido (Xordica, 2004), is a specialist in music and a raido DJ. Since 1987 she has directed and presented numerous radio and television programs on RTVE.
