September is here and there a full weekend of activities lies ahead, with various events and fairs to go and see. We highlight here Maspalomas Music Festival, Wine, mangoes and avocados on offer in Mogán, some Patron Saint festivities in Teror, clowns in Valsequillo, a cattle fair in Tejeda among other events for this first weekend in September edition of The Canary Guide Weekend Tips .

FRIDAY 31 AUGUST, MOGÁN
NOCHE DE VINOS

A wine night is planned in Playa Mogán on Friday in Plaza de Gañanias in the evening from 21:oo to 01:00

The event will include wineries from all over the island of Gran Canaria, along with the participation of several restaurants and bars in Playa de Mogán in support of the Mango Fair and the Summer Avocado fair happening this Sunday. Tastings based on these products and wine with the affordable prices of 1 & 2 euros each.

 


31.8.-2.9. SAN BARTOLOME DE TIRAJANA
MASPALOMAS MUSIC FESTIVAL

The Maspalomas Music Festival returns to the Parque Urbano del Sur with a proposal that opts for urban rhythms and for more Jazz and Soul, which will share space with the so-called world music and international artists. In this second edition, the festival raises the game and brings together 10 international, national and local bands at the Parque Urbano del Sur, with free admission. From 18:00-01:00.

The first day of the festival will be a mix of styles on stage. Canarian band Banadú will open with Soul, Jazz, Funk, HipHop, Groove and Future Soul, their proposal of music from the Canary Islands to the world. From Galicia The Soul Jacket  next on stage with their classic Rock and Roll with rhythm Rhythm & Blues. The closing act of the first day will be of soul Afro beat music with the UK band Shirley Davis & The Silverbacks.

Local artists open Saturday, Gox band with their characteristic urban styles, followed by artists from Vecindario Burning Yama, with a reggae Canarian root peppered with rap, samba and percussion tones. Next the international look with the Korean-Australian Saritah playing vibrant Reggae, Dancehall, Pop and Soul, and an organic sound with acoustic flavors, overflowing joy, inspiring lyrics and colorful celebrations on the stage. The last artist of the night will take the audience on a journey through the world with Flavia Coehlo bringing Carioca folklore, samba, Latin rhythms and the nomadic experience of an artist without labels and a vibrant staging.

The urban style will take over on Sunday with the young artists of San Bartolomé de Tirajana Yei & Dey, to make way for Los300, a commitment to Funk that invites a multitudinous party of sounds on stage. The Grenadians bring to the island lyrics full of the hook of “Jack, The Fighting Kangaroo”, their latest work, which unites samba, percussion, a lot of rhythm, and good humor.


31.8. – 2.9. TEROR
FIESTAS DEL PINO 

The Patron Saint of Gran Canaria, the Virgen del Pino 2018, festivities continue in Teror. You can see the program of the popular events HERE ( in Spanish )

On Friday “XXX encuentro teresa de Bolívar” with music from Mayelín”(Cuba) y “Martirio”(España) in Plaza de Sintes, starting at 21:00
On Saturday, II Feria de la Papa, Potato Fair in Palacio Episcopal, starting at 10:00, Artisans fair at Plaza de Pino and Calle Real from 10:00-20:00. At 12:00 the raising of the flag with the ringing of the bells, fliers, firecrackers and a parade with the Charanga de Teror at Plaza del Pino. There is a foam party at Plaza de Sintes at 13:00.
On Sunday, the 2nd potato fair continues at Plazacio Episcopal at 10:00 as well as a craft fair at Plaza del Pino and Calle Real going on from 10:00-15:00. In the evening music from José Manuel Ramos (“Remembering Antonio Machín”)  at Alameda Pío XII, starting at 21:00.


FRIDAY 31.8. AGUIMES
XXIV VARÁ DE PESCAO – ARINAGA 

As part of the festivities “El Pino” happening also in Arinaga, Aguimes.
At 18:00 at the Avenida de los Pescadores “Vará de pescao”, followed by maritime procession romeria at 19:00 which starts from Risco verde. at 21:00 salida de banda and at 22:30 music at the Plaza de Arinaga and around 23:15 fireworks show at the Arinaga port

Thousands of people partying into the night to celebrate the marine harvest of sardines among other local fish.  I must see event, especially for those who fancy a bit of local celebration

1-2 SEPTEMBER, VILLA DE MOYA
SLACKLINE CANARIAS 

This weekend, a hair raising record attempt event in Villa de Moya! Kevin Vega will try to break the Spanish “highline” record, crossing the Moya ravine on a single rope. In addition, from early on there will be slackline exhibitions and workshops in the viewpoint of the church of Nuestra Señora de Candelaria.

Slackline Canarias are preparing to raise the current national highline record currently held by their president, Kevin Vega. In collaboration with the Town Hall Villa de Moya, this will certainly be a different affair to go and see and to explore behind the parish is Our Lady of La Candelaria de Moya.

The best highliners in the country will also meet from 09:00 on Saturday September 1 to see who will be able to achieve the longest Highline in Spain. Slackline workshops for anyone who wants to try this growing sport can do so with the help of real Slack professionals.

FERIA DE GANADO

as part of the festivities for “Virgen del Socorro” there is a grand cattle fair happening in the mountainous and beautiful village of Tejeda starting at 10:00.

 

 

 

 

 


SUNDAY 2 SEPTEMBER, MOGÁN
III FERIA DEL MANGO Y AGUACATE DE VERANO

The 3rd edition of Mango and Summer Avocado fair in Playa de Mogán is this Sunday. The fair takes place on Plaza de las Gañanias.

The fair will be from 10:00 to 14:00, and will have an agricultural produce area,  with a total of 19 stalls where you can learn firsthand the reality, quality and importance of mango and avocado crops in the south western municipality of Mogán. Among the stands will be members of the Cooperativa Agrícola de Mogán, “which represents a group of farmers and producers in the municipality.”

The III Summer Mango and Avocado Fair will also feature a sample and sale of handicraft products made by artisans from the municipality and throughout Gran Canaria, as well as spaces for sale of other fruits produced in the municipality such as pitayas, lemons, limes , papayas or tunos. There is also a gastronomic area to taste different tapas and skewers made from avocado and mango and a collaboration of restaurateurs and professionals of the sector of Mogán with artisanal ice cream, juices, breads, crepes or cane sugar cane.

 


SUNDAY 2 SEPTEMBER, LAS PALMAS 
DIA MUNDIAL DE LA FISIOTERAPIA – I FERIA 

The first regional fair for the World Day of Physiotherapy is simultaneously celebrated in Tenerife and Gran Canaria on Sunday. The fair in Gran Canaria is held in Parque San Telmo from 10:00-19.30 and offers workshops, therapeutic exercises, education.

The School of Physiotherapists has organized a wide program of activities and workshops for Sunday ahead of the World Day of Physiotherapy on 8 September. A central tent where an extensive program of talks and workshops and 7 information booths. The workshops include those aimed at families and children, where postural hygiene will be discussed with the return to school, and a workshop on Acquired Brain Damage where citizens can discover the limitations suffered by people with this type of injury. In addition, workshops will be held to improve pelvic floor care in men and women, prevention of falls in elderly people, to improve breathing, or to know how to react to physical pain, among others.

In these activities, one of the most powerful tools of Physiotherapy, the Therapeutic Exercise, will be used.


SUNDAY 2 SEPTEMBER
TRIANA – TRIANA FIN DE SEMANA ABIERTO 

September arrives at the Triana shopping district in Las Palmas, our capital’s original and oldest merchant quarter, with open Sunday for some shopping as well as workshops and leisure and entertainment activities.

At Eurekakids toy store from 11:00- 14:00 a sow a seed workshop. A workshop for children of healthy nutrition 11:00-14:00 (Triana, 56). Similarly, at number 102, facepainting , from 11:00-14:00. “Back to school” workshop 11:00-14:00 on Travieso con Cano.

And something for adults too with once again, at number 13 on Calle Torres, the Shack Bar will host the exhibition of vinyl and second-hand clothes (11:00 to 18:00), and a musical performance (13:00 to 18:00).


29-3 SEPTEMBER, VALSEQUILLO 
12th EDITION OF THE INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF CLOWNS ‘THREE DAYS FARANDULA’
