Another awesome Carnival weekend ahead on Gran Canaria, particularly in the capital, Las Palmas, as well as many another things going on all around the island. Get ready to experience just some of the multitude of events that the island has to offer over the coming days. Weather predictions are looking good so far for the south and with a slight chance of some rain in the north.  Daytime average temperatures look set around 21ºC in the shade, but will be warmer in direct sunlight.


1-10 March, Maspalomas 
9ª Feria de Artesanía de Maspalomas Primavera Sur

The 9th springtime artisans fair in the south, by the FEDAC association, will be set once again in the idyllic surroundings of the Faro de #Maspalomas lighthouse.

The fair is on from 1 to 10 March 2019

Open every day from 10:00 to 19:00 it is the perfect opportunity to see hand made works by some of the best artisan crafts peoples of the Canary Islands; ceramics, wood, metal, leather, textiles, glass and recycled materials among others in a magnificent combination of traditional materials and modern design.

 


1-3 March, Las Palmas
Carnival Las Palmas

Carnival celebrations continue in the capital, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria until the 10th of March.

On Friday 21:00 Gala de la Reina. One of the most popular images of the Carnival is provided every year by the elaborate designs worn by candidates for Queen of the carnival. All of the dresses are created by renowned local designers and the quality of the fabrics used and the enormous size of the outfits, their colours along with the originality of their designs, mean that this gala is one of the most eagerly awaited nights of the carnival festivities. 22:00 Carnival Nights, party until – 03:00. Free Concerts and Live Music next to plaza de Canarias, Parque de Santa Catalina. 

Saturday 2 March, Daytime Carnival in Triana,
Between 12:00-19:00 The commercial area of Triana celebrates its first Day Time Carnival with comparsas, murgas and children’s animation. Calle Mayor in Triana celebrates Carnival in a family atmosphere. Three children’s troupes and two batucadas will tour the space from the Plaza de Stagno to the sculpture by Martín Chirino, where a stage for performances will be located.

Carnival in the Sun at Las Canteras,
Starting at 17:00 at the other end of the city, on the beach Las Canteras, the carnival will also come alive with the rhythm set by the main performance groups of the party: murgas and comparsas giving the best of themselves to masquerades among the pedestrians. The groups that have participated in the 2019 contest accompanied batucadas as well as various Carnival characters, will all start their tour of Europes most famous urban beach from the Las Canteras promenade (in front of Hotel Cristina) in the direction of the leisure area of ​​Santa Catalina Park. The parade will end in the main Carnival area, at the back of the park, with a concert from the music group “Overbooking”

In the Evening starting at 21:00 the Preselection for the Drag Queen Gala – get a preview of all the would-be contestants for this years Drag Gala –  Free to enter.
Late night fun starting at 22:00 with Carnival Nights. Carnival Nights mean fun and everyone in costume. From 22:00 – 03:00. Free Concerts and Live Music next to plaza de Canarias, Parque de Santa Catalina.

On Sunday 3 March . Day Carnival in Santa Catalina.
Starting at 12:00 Santa Catalina park will once again be the scene of a family carnival day and live music. From 12.00, the main stage will host a tribute project Forever Selena, canarian singer Angeles Pérez, as well as rock versions of well known hits from a Tenerife group. On the stage located in the Plaza de Canarias (at the guaguas bus interchange), the live music program will continue with concerts.


1-3 March, Mogán
La Carpa – Mogán Casco

Mogán casco, the oldest part of Pueblo de Mogán, are set to enjoy a weekend full of fun with the program ‘La Carpa’ organized by the Town Hall. It will be held in Parque Nicolás Quesada and includes a neighborhood cinema night, batucada, costume party and lots of music.

On Saturday, a night of Carnival, starting at 21:30 the baton Samba da Ilha, which will mark the rhythm of the parade that will take place through the streets of the town ending next to the Municipal Sports Complex Valle de Mogán at 21:30 and will be followed by a lot of music afterwards
On Sunday,  the closing day with a children’s costume party at 18:00. This afternoon is dedicated to the children with animation, a costume catwalk,  makeup workshops, chocolate and carnival pancakes.


Saturday 2 March ,Valsequillo
II Feria Insular de Vinos de Gran Canaria

Valsequillo gathers the best wines of Gran Canaria at the II Insular Fair of Wines. An event at which the best wines from the island will be awarded through a professional tasting and which will also offer a unique opportunity for anyone who wants to enjoy the best products of the area accompanied by a good glass of wine.

The fair is scheduled to start at four in the afternoon, with a series of stands where we can taste and acquire not only some of the best wines of Gran Canaria, but also exquisite local products, such as the unique Valsequillo honey, a great variety of cheeses and potatoes from the area, delicious jams and the famous strawberry. Glasses of wine will be offered at very attractive prices along with tapas made with the best produce of the municipality, and all kinds of oenological products, all related to the production and consumption of wine.

Saturday 2 March, La Aldea de San Nicolás
Carnival La Aldea

The westernmost municipality on the island of Gran Canaria, La Aldea is celebrating their Carnival 2019 in March between 2-23 and this years theme is all about #LaMagia, magic.

Celebrations on Saturday start with Day Carnival at Plaza de Alameda , a day filled with festivities so dress to impress, with all the magic you can muster. There will be a farmers and artisans market starting from 10:00, Carnival workshops from 11:30, music and shows starting at 12:30.

The history of Gran Canaria is put on display for all to see through an extensive network of museums where the thousands of various ingredients that made the island a conclave of diverse cultures are all mixed together.

Segunda mano y trueque

Circular economy and respect for the environment will once again be the stars in the Villa de Agaete with the celebration of the ‘Second hand and barter’ street market on Sunday, starting at 11:00 in the Plaza de la Constitución.

A lovely initiative that demonstrates the commitment of the municipal government to recycling, sustainability and environmental protection.
