On Friday 27 July, the maximum eclipse, visible from Gran Canaria, will occur at 21:21, as our planet crosses closest to the centre of our nearest satellite when she is close to horizon, so make sure you have a free line of sight toward the East-southeast.

MASPALOMAS COSTA CANARIA SOUL FESTIVAL 

The fourth edition of the Maspalomas Costa Canaria Soul Festival is this weekend on the San Agustín beachfront. The main entertainment being Friday and Saturday evening.

27-29 JULY, PLAYA DE MOGÁN
FIESTAS DEL CARMEN come to a close

The festivities for “La Virgen del Carmen” the patron saint of sailors will come to an end this weekend in the municipality of Mogán.

On Friday  at 22:30 there is a concert by a popular music group “La Trova” at Plaza de Las Gañanias en Playa de Mogán

On Saturday,  at 18:30 the Bajada de la Rama, the lowering of the branch procession to Plaza Dr. Pedro Betancor followed by traditional dancing at 22:00 and at 23:00 after party at Plaza de Las Gañanias & at midnight fireworks 

On Sunday,  at 10:00 One more solemn Eucharist at Plaza Dr. Pedro Betancor, followed by the final maritime procession back to Arguineguín and at 20:30 the party to ending this years Fiestas del Carmen in Mogán.

As part of the 22nd edition of Temudas, the International theatre, music and dance  festival, there are free outdoor events to be enjoyed this weekend.

On Friday, ASHES: WONDERFUL WORLD at 22:00 in Plaza de Santa Ana.
Contemporary Circus,  50 minutes,  Free entry.

Wonderful World, from the Company Ashes, is a contemporary circus show that is born of the union of three Canarian artists who are trained in recognized schools in the international contemporary circus world, such as Doch and Esac. Here they work together to present a show infused with comedy, drama, humor, risk and tenderness.

On Saturday, Las Palmas symphony band : ¿A Quien le importa? at 22:00 in Plaza de Santa Ana
Music. 80 minutes Free entry.

The song “Who Cares?” By the group Alaska and Dinarama, released in the eighties and which was a major success among the youth of the moment, for its rebel lyrics and opposition to the social prejudices of that time, gives title to the show from the Municipal Symphony Band of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.


28-29 JULY, SANTA MARIA DE GUÍA
FIESTAS DEL VIRGEN 

Santa Maria de Guiá, on the north of island,  start their festivities in honour of their patron Virgin. You can see the full program here (in Spanish).

On Friday at 19:45 a street party procession with big Papiermâché figures in front of the church and through the streets of Guía and at 21:00 at Plaza Grande the opening ceremony and gala for the festivities.

On Saturday the XXV folk festival for the “Island of Gran Canaria”  During the day at 13:00 tastings of typical foods from participant countries at Plaza Grande. At 20:00 there is a parade of the participant groups leaving from Plaza de San Roque and travelling via streets of Pérez Galdós, Santiago Betancor Brito and Médico Estévez until arriving to the front porch of the church. at 21:00 four folkloric groups will be performing in the Plaza Grande.


SATURDAY 28 JULY, PLAYA DEL INGLÉS 
SUMMER ACTIVITIES : TAI CHI CHUAN & CHI KUNG

Once again, this summer, the town council of San Bartlomé de Tirajana has organised free activities throughout the coming summer months.

Every Saturday, starting this weekend, there is a free Tai Chi class in Chuan (Yang Style) and Chi Kung (Various Styles), in Playa del Inglés.

In collaboration with The Canary Association of Tai Chi Chuan and Chi Kung, directed by the Sifu Jordi Moya Pizarro.

28 JULY, ARUCAS
Fiestas Patronales San Pedro Apóstol – Bañaderos

Bañaderos, located in the municipality of Arucas, are celebrating their patron saint festivities in honour of San Pedro el apóstol (Saint Peter the Apostle). As part of the program there is a fun fair happening on Saturday, the “fiesta de Platano”, the banana fiesta, with a popular procession and burning of the banana followed by a music concert. The Banana will tour from Plaza de San Pedro at 19:00 to La Puertillo at the ocean side for the burning, and the fiesta is followed by a concert on the Plaza from Overbooking and DJ Jony. *** It is recommended to go dressed all White and with a yellow scarf.

 


SUNDAY 29 JULY, SAN BARTOLOMÉ DE TIRAJANA, TUNTE
I FERIA DE ECOLOGÍCA DEL PUEBLO DE TUNTE  

As part of the annual patron saint festivities of Santiago Apostol in Tunte, there is a first edition of an ecological and organic fair happening in the famous old town this Sunday. The market will be from 10:00-17:00
