“It is good to remember that any adverse weather condition can cause any outdoor event to be cancelled or postponed.”
“With the arrival of autumn, thousands of Cory’s shearwater chicks take their first night flight from the cliffs to the sea. But instead of following the moonlight, many are dazzled by urban lighting, especially in densely populated coastal areas. This disorients them, causing them to fall to the ground, crash into lampposts or power lines, and even be run over.”
If you find an injured shearwater, the first thing to do is to catch it, using a rag if it tries to bite you. Don’t leave it for later, because they’re capable of hiding.
Then carefully place it in a cardboard box; other materials tend to damage the feathers, and they are more delicate than they appear at first glance.
It’s also a good idea to fill the bottom of the box with sawdust or newspaper shavings, which act as absorbents for any animal droppings. You can ventilate the inside of the box by making a few holes in it.
Once closed, leave the box in a quiet place, protected from the sun or rain, and call the emergency numbers: 112, Guardia Civil, Local Police, Red Cross, Civil Protection, or the Environmental Department.
Do not give any water or food.

Overview ☀️
🌴 #GranCanariaWeather
Gran Canaria steps into a lively November weekend filled with major events, but the weather may play a more active role than recent weeks. After a season of reliable sunshine, variable autumn patterns mean we’re seeing more cloud cover and the risk of light rain, especially away from the coast. Many will welcome the fresher air, but participants and organizers of outdoor events should keep one eye on the sky.
Several festivals spread across the island— from the large Feria del Sureste in Ingenio to creative gatherings like the Quick Painting Contest in Mogán and globally minded ‘Sabores del Mundo’ in Maspalomas—will experience typical early November variability: cooler breezes, clouds drifting through, brief but possible showers. For the north and interior, pack a light rain jacket; for the southern tourist hubs, weather interruptions look much less likely but can’t be entirely ruled out for late afternoons.
A second consideration: next week sees the start of Winter Pride Maspalomas and the big transatlantic ARC rally in Las Palmas. Both are likely to see decent conditions for their opening, but midweek rain bands are forecast to cross the island—so early next week is your window for reliably dry and bright weather.

-
Rainfall probability rises to 35–40%, peaking late afternoon and evening.
-

-
In the south/coast (Mogán, Maspalomas), showers are less likely but cannot be ruled out after 16:00.
🎨 *Quick Painting Contest in Mogán, most of the competition will be dry; evening music at Ingenio (Feria del Sureste) might need a cover plan. -

Sunday 9 November
🌥️ Morning:
-
Mostly cloudy start for the island; south will quickly brighten, but north/interior stays dull.
-

🔭 Looking Ahead to Next Week
Looking Ahead:
(Monday 10 – Sunday 16 November)
Mon–Tue:
-
Partly cloudy, mostly dry. Only the northern slopes may see a passing light shower.
-
Highs 24–25°C, lows down to 16°C in uplands.
Wed–Thu:

-
Rain probability jumps midweek (50% by Wednesday, >80% Thursday), especially for north and east slopes.
-
Daytime highs 23–24°C, nights noticeably cooler (16–17°C).
-
Freshening east winds (15 km/h); seas become slightly choppier.
🎉 Winter Pride Maspalomas launches with mostly fine opening days; heavier rain (possibly thundershowers) moves in late Thursday—parade planners, occasional cover needed.
Fri–Sun (Outlook):
-
Unsettled start, but trend is for gradual improvement after Thursday.
-
Scattered showers early, clearer, calmer by the weekend.
-
Temperatures stabilize (20–24°C), trade winds moderate, and sun regains dominance by Sunday.
Summary: This weekend will be cooler and show more clouds and spotty rain—pack a light jacket for all inland and northern events, but the southern beaches and main tourist zones should enjoy typical mild autumn weather. Midweek brings a notable band of rain; after that, normal Gran Canaria sunshine should return for the following weekend and key festival finales.

"LPGC, streets with art" | Saturday 8th
The second edition of “LPGC, calles con arte” in La Isleta this Saturday, following the success of its first edition in Alcaravaneras. The initiative will transform the popular neighbourhood into an open-air museum from 11:00 to 20:00.
The event will take place primarily on Calle Taliarte and Calle Guaires in La Isleta.
Activities from 11:00
Saturday will offer a packed program that will include exhibitions, dance, performances, participatory workshops, as well as live music and painting.
Attendees will also enjoy a unique section dedicated to drama and theater. In addition, various musical and performing arts groups will commemorate the 115th anniversary of the founding of Club Victoria.
The day’s program has been developed with input from this enclave on the isthmus: texts, illustrations, photographs, and mementos will be displayed and used as the basis for numerous dramatizations. Based on the text “Why We Live in La Isleta” by Jonathan Ortega, coordinator of the popular blog Conoce La Isleta (Get to Know La Isleta), vignettes have been created and will be shown throughout the day. Similarly, a mural made with old photographs from the “Routes of Memory” collection by Desireé Hernández will be exhibited, as well as family memories compiled in the publication “Isleta Tales” by Esther Quintero.
Furthermore, as was the case in Las Alcaravaneras, local schools and training centres will participate with dynamic activities. A large number of students from the Canteras, León y Castillo, and Saucillo schools will exhibit artwork related to their surroundings. Art students from IES La Isleta will join in the creation of a participatory mural on Calle Faya, created and directed by visual artists Felo Monzón and Tono Cruz.
Another cultural hub in the neighbourhood, the La Isleta Municipal Public Library, has been working on its contribution to the project for some time. Its staff will share the results of the creative writing workshops held recently with the participants, as the writings produced will be placed in a ballot box in Adargoma Square and will form the basis of the performance piece “The Library of the Future.”
Following the success of the first edition, “Tapas with Art” will offer a culinary route featuring local bars and restaurants with special dishes created for the occasion. A jury of experts will evaluate the offerings.

ARC Atlantic Rally for Cruises 2025 | Sunday 9th
The Atlantic Rally for Cruisers regatta, the ARC, a classic on the nautical agenda of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, prepares sails for its new edition at the capital’s sports pier. Two nautical rallies link Gran Canaria and its capital with the Caribbean every November.
The fleet of this nautical event, organized by the British company World Cruising Club, renews its commitment to the city and its annual Atlantic adventure at a time of year favourable for sailing from the Canary Islands.

The first stage of the rally sails from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to Mindelo Marina, São Vicente, a distance of approximately 850nm, taking between 5 and 7 days for a 12m (40’) cruising boat. Following the 4 to 6 day stopover, yachts sail to Port Louis Marina, Grenada. The passage to the Caribbean is approximately 2150 nm and will take 12 to 16 days.
