🛍️ Explore Gran Canaria’s Christmas markets & fairs
Wander the Christmas Markets in Agüimes and San Mateo, sample local flavours at La Aldea’s Tomato Fair, and enjoy wines and live music at “Santa Brígida con Vinos”. Add in village events like Fataga Rural Day and the Gáldar Farmers’ Market for a full taste of island life. -
🚦 Plan ahead for cyclists, swims and village fiestas
Sunday’s start of Gran Canaria Bike Week and Saturday’s Anfi Mogán Open Water swim mean extra activity on south‑coast roads and around Anfi del Mar, Playa de Mogán and Puerto Rico. Christmas lights‑on events and markets in Telde, Gáldar, San Mateo, Tejeda and Playa de Mogán will also draw crowds, so allow extra time for parking and follow any temporary diversions. -
🌞🧢💧 Warm, sunny days – cool nights
Coastal resorts in Mogán and the south stay around 23–25∘C23–25^\circ C with plenty of sun, while evenings quickly drop into the mid‑teens, especially inland. Pack SPF 30+, a hat and water for daytime exploring, and a light jacket if you are heading up to hill towns or staying out late for concerts and lights‑on celebrations. -
🎄🎶 Christmas sparkle everywhere
Soak up the festive atmosphere at lights‑on ceremonies in Telde, Gáldar, San Mateo, Tejeda and Playa de Mogán, plus seasonal programmes at Mogan Mall and in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Many come with live music, children’s activities and food stalls, so they are perfect for an evening paseo under the new Christmas illuminations. -
🚴♀️🏊♂️ Cheer on the island’s athletes
On Saturday the Anfi Mogán Open Water draws swimmers of all ages across Mogán’s beaches, with finishes at Anfi del Mar, while Sunday launches a full week of Gran Canaria Bike Week stages across the island. Even if you are not taking part, it is a great time to watch from beachfront promenades or mountain viewpoints and support the riders and swimmers. -
💡🛍️ Shop festive, shop early
With no major public holiday this weekend, shops and centres keep normal hours, but Christmas markets, malls and supermarkets will be busy around evenings and Sunday afternoon. Visit earlier in the day for calmer browsing, better parking and the widest choice of gifts, decorations and local delicacies.

Overview ☀️
🌴 #GranCanariaWeather
A Calm & Festive Transition into December 🎄☀️
As we wave goodbye to November, the island is treating us to a gentle and stable weekend—perfect timing for the official start of the festive season! After the recent “calima” brushes, the skies have cleared significantly, leaving us with pleasant visibility and mild temperatures.
A settled weekend is lining up across Gran Canaria, with plenty of warm sunshine on the coasts and just a hint of winter freshness once the sun goes down. The north and interior see more cloud and cooler evenings, but nothing that should seriously spoil the many Christmas lights‑on events, markets or outdoor celebrations planned island‑wide.
On the beaches of Mogán, Taurito and Puerto Rico, daytime highs hover in the low‑to‑mid twenties, feeling pleasantly warm in the sun and still inviting for swimming, while the trade winds stay mostly light. Inland villages such as San Mateo, Tejeda and Fataga will notice the contrast, with crisp nights and a greater chance of passing cloud, so anyone heading up for markets, concerts or rural fiestas will want an extra layer for after dark. Into next week, the pattern turns more unsettled, with increasing cloud and a growing risk of showers, especially in the north and high ground, though coastal resorts should still enjoy long bright spells between any bursts of rain.
We are looking at a classic “north/south split” but in its mildest form. The north may see some cloud cover (the famous Panza de Burro) lingering in the mornings and evenings, keeping things fresh for the Christmas light switch-ons. Meanwhile, the south and west coasts are set for a weekend of glorious, calm sunshine.
#GranCanariaWeather Nov 28 - Nov 30
📅 The Weekend Outlook
Friday 28th | The Festive Kick-Off 🎄
-
A tale of two climates. Sunbathing in the south, wrapping up warm in the north.
-
☀️ South (Maspalomas/Mogán): Bright sunshine, calm seas, and highs of 22°C. Perfect beach weather.
-
☁️ North & Summits (San Mateo/Teror): Expect cloud intervals and cooler air. If you are heading to the San Mateo or Gáldar Light Switch-ons, bring a jacket! Temps will drop to a crisp 16°C after sunset.
-
🌊 Sea: Moderate swell in the north, glass-like in the south.
Friday brings a classic “two‑climate” Gran Canaria day: mostly sunny and warm in the south and west, with a little more cloud clinging to the north coast and the higher interior. Around Mogán and the southwest resorts, expect highs close to 23–24°C , gentle breezes around 10 km/h and virtually no chance of rain, ideal for a lazy beach day or a dip in sea water still around 22ºC.
Evening Christmas lights‑on festivities in Telde, Gáldar and San Mateo should find dry skies and comfortable temperatures near 18–20°C at the start, sliding down towards the mid‑teens later, particularly inland. Shoppers and revellers in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria can expect mild conditions with just some passing high cloud, a gentle breeze and no significant weather warnings in effect.
Saturday 29th | The Star Performer 🌟
-
The best day of the weekend. Wall-to-wall sunshine for most of the island.
-
🎯 Best For: The Anfi Mogán Open Water swim (conditions look ideal with light winds) and the La Aldea Tomato Fair.
-
🌡️ Temps: Nudging 23°C in the sun; feeling very pleasant.
-
💨 Wind: Gentle breezes from the North-East (15-20 km/h).
Saturday is set to be the sweetest beach day of the weekend, with AEMET pointing to clear or slightly cloudy skies in the south and southwest, coastal highs nudging 24–25°C and only light winds. That is very good news for the Anfi Mogán Open Water swim and for anyone enjoying the Playa de Mogán Christmas lights‑on, tapas fair or the bustling Christmas programme at Mogan Mall in Puerto Rico. Sea conditions are generally slight, with modest Atlantic swell and no coastal warnings, so crossings and boat trips should be smooth, though swimmers should still respect currents and lifeguard guidance.
Up in Tejeda, Agüimes and other mid‑altitude towns, Saturday will feel cooler, with maximums nearer 18–20°C and a greater share of cloud, especially later in the afternoon, but rain risk stays very low so the Christmas markets, concerts and Manga‑themed fun in Guía can go ahead in comfort.
Sunday 30th | 🛒
-
A copy of Saturday with a touch more cloud later in the day.
-
🌥️ North: Dry but partly cloudy—ideal for strolling the Agüimes Christmas Market without getting sweaty.
-
☀️ South: Holding steady with blue skies and 22°C highs. Great for Sunday lunch outdoors.
By contrast, Sunday starts to show the first signs of change: still bright and warm in the south with highs around 23–24°C , but with thicker cloud pushing into the north and highlands and a slightly higher chance of a light shower, particularly towards evening.
For Fataga Rural Day, the Gáldar Farmers’ Market and the opening stage of Gran Canaria Bike Week, conditions remain generally favourable, with light to moderate winds and mostly dry spells, though cyclists tackling the northern and central routes may encounter patchy low cloud and brief damp patches on shaded mountain roads. Evening temperatures everywhere drop back into the mid‑teens, so whether you are lingering in village plazas or strolling seafront promenades, a light jacket or cardigan will be welcome once the sun dips.
🔭 Looking Ahead to Next Week
Looking Ahead:
From Monday onwards, AEMET’s 7‑day forecasts for Mogán and Las Palmas suggest that daytime temperatures hold remarkably steady around 22–23°C on the coasts and 17–19∘C inland, with nights generally between 14–16°C . The bigger change is in cloud cover and rain probabilities: trade‑wind cloud thickens over the north and the mountains, and the chance of showers rises through Monday to Wednesday, with some models hinting at locally heavier bursts while the south‑west stays drier and brighter overall.
Winds are expected to remain in the light‑to‑moderate range, occasionally fresh on exposed coasts and high ridges, but there are no significant warning signals for strong gales or heavy seas at this stage. For anyone planning mid‑week excursions, markets or training rides during Gran Canaria Bike Week, the message is to expect more cloud, carry a light rain layer and plan for short, passing showers rather than full wash‑outs, especially north of the island and above the 600‑metre contour.
The start of the month looks incredibly stable. We are entering a pattern of “Anticyclonic calm,” meaning no major storms are on the horizon for the first week of Advent. Here is the detailed breakdown by zone:
The South & West (Coast) It is “business as usual” for winter sun lovers. Expect a streak of sunny days from Monday through Thursday with highs of 22-23°C. Nights will be cool but manageable (around 16°C). If you are visiting for the holidays, pack swimwear for the day and a light hoodie for the evening. There may be some showers by mid week.
The North (Las Palmas / Arucas) The Panza de Burro (donkey belly cloud) will likely make a return from Wednesday onwards. Monday and Tuesday look bright, but by mid-week, expect those familiar grey mornings that burn off by lunch. There is a slight chance of light drizzle (the local chipi-chipi) towards Friday (Dec 5), but nothing that will wash out your plans.
The Summits (Tejeda / Roque Nublo) Crisp and clear. The mountains will enjoy plenty of sunshine during the day, making it perfect hiking weather. However, the temperature difference will be stark—warm in the sun (18°C) but dropping rapidly to single digits (8-10°C) at night.
❄️ The Big Question: Will we see Yule Time Snow? Short answer: Not yet. While the “Snow Level” (cota de nieve) is technically hovering around 1800m, the moisture just isn’t there. For snow to stick in Gran Canaria, we need a clash of cold polar air and heavy precipitation, which isn’t in the charts for the first week of December. We are looking at a dry, stable start to the month, so the peaks will likely remain green and rocky rather than white for now.

Visitors can also participate in a free tasting of local products, organised by students from the Alternative Education Training Programs (PFAE), who will showcase their culinary skills and their commitment to promoting the municipality’s gastronomic heritage.
