Middle of August already… and its full-on summer time on Gran Canaria. Weather prediction looks perfect on the south and the north will be little less stable, but as warm as warm can be. Many are events happening over the weekend to go and explore and what’s most exciting, so many of them are absolutely for free.


17-18 AUGUST, MELENARA, TELDE 
FIESTAS DE MELENARA 17-26 AUGUST 

The north east seaside neighborhood of Melenara in Telde, are celebrating their annual festivities in honour of the Santo Cura de Ars Our Lady of Carmen and the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the patrons of this coastal district. You can see the full program here ( in Spanish)

On Friday, the festivities start at 18:00 with a street parade and at 21:00 the official opening gala. 21:30 the election of the King and Queen of the fiestas and at 22:00 a concert by Pepe Penavente.

On Saturday, Romeria, the traditional pilgrimage offering at 18:00 heading to the church followed by traditional dancing at 21:00 and a concert from “Los Lola! at 23:00

(Tip!  the big firework show is on next Saturday, 25 August on the Melenara beach)

 


17-19 AUGUST, MASPALOMAS
XI FERIA DE ARTESANÍA FARO DE MASPALOMAS

The 11th edition of the Artisanal Crafts Fair began last Friday and continues until this Sunday. The idyllic surrounds of the Maspalomas lighthouse will offer the possibility to see and purchase numerous creations from artisans working in ceramics, recycled re-purposed materials, jewellery, wood, metal, leather, textiles and glass, among others.

The fair is on every day between 10-19 August, from 18:00 – 00:00 below the Faro de Maspalomas lighthouse.

SUMMER ACTIVITIES : TAI CHI CHUAN & CHI KUNG

Once again, this summer, the town council of San Bartlomé de Tirajana has organised free activities during the coming summer months.

Every Saturday throughout summer there is a free Tai Chi class in Chuan (Yang Style) and Chi Kung (Various Styles), in Playa del Inglés. In collaboration with The Canary Association of Tai Chi Chuan and Chi Kung, directed by the Sifu Jordi Moya Pizarro.

VIVE EL ROCK 2018, BAND CONTEST 

On Saturday evening, the final of the band contest, a project to promote Canarian amateur rock, hard rock, heavy metal and AOR bands.

In Santa Catalina Park, a free outdoor event with some talented groups as well as invited bands performing, starting at 18:00

MERCADILLO AGRÍCOLA Y ARTESANAL DE PUERTO RICO

Farmer’s market and handicrafts. Every fortnight, on a Sunday, in an ideal setting surrounded by palm trees and to the sound of typical Canarian music, early in the morning there is a farmers and crafts market.

Locally grown fruits and vegetables, cheese, sweets and so much more. This weekend also the new market season starts, so there are also tastings of typical Canarian delights.

The market is open from 08:30-14:30
