“With the arrival of autumn, thousands of Cory’s shearwater chicks take their first night flight from the cliffs to the sea.  But instead of following the moonlight, many are dazzled by urban lighting, especially in densely populated coastal areas. This disorients them, causing them to fall to the ground, crash into lampposts or power lines, and even be run over.”

💙  If you find an injured shearwater, the first thing to do is to catch it, using a rag if it tries to bite you. Don’t leave it for later, because they’re capable of hiding.

💙  Then carefully place it in a cardboard box; other materials tend to damage the feathers, and they are more delicate than they appear at first glance.

💙 It’s also a good idea to fill the bottom of the box with sawdust or newspaper shavings, which act as absorbents for any animal droppings. You can ventilate the inside of the box by making a few holes in it.

💙  Once closed, leave the box in a quiet place, protected from the sun or rain, and call the emergency numbers: 112,  Guardia Civil, Local Police, Red Cross, Civil Protection, or the Environmental Department.

💙 Do not give any water or food.

Overview ☀️

🌴 #GranCanariaWeather

This weekend marks a classic late November on Gran Canaria—an exuberant lineup of Christmas lights switch-ons, bustling fairs, and outdoor festivities, all set against changing island skies. Expect variable cloud cover, mainly in northern and eastern areas, with some chance of brief showers more likely in the medianías (upland regions). Temperatures are set to climb slowly—warm days making way for cooler evenings, especially noticeable for those attending nighttime Christmas events. Breezes from the northeast could freshen up coastal celebrations, particularly in Las Palmas and Mogan, but winds remain mostly light or moderate, with no weather warnings in effect.

The weather may create an atmospheric backdrop for the open-air concerts, bustling craft fairs, and sports competitions. If showers do occur, they’re expected to be brief and scattered—unlikely to disrupt major activities. The UV index remains moderate, so daytime revelers at out-of-town events (like the Km.0 Fair or Tuna and Sea Fair) should come prepared for both sunshine and an autumn breeze. For marathon runners and swim-run athletes, Sunday’s forecast points to ideal, cool conditions.

🔭 Looking Ahead to Next Week

Looking Ahead:

As we move into the final week of November, the warming trend continues: highs linger around 26–27°C through Monday. The risk of rain remains low for most days, only picking up mid-week (Wednesday, Thursday), when probability jumps (60–85%)—indicating a return of showers, likely affecting northern slopes and coastal areas. Nights will cool, with minimums fluctuating between 15–20°C. Winds stay mostly light, only gustier inland early next week. By Thursday, more persistent rain may return, so plan accordingly for outdoor activities midweek and beyond.

Expect the start of next week to favor sunshine and light breezes, making it perfect for walks, markets, and continued festivities. By Wednesday and Thursday, watch for possible wet conditions—always good to keep a light jacket handy!

The rally attracts people of all ages and nationalities, sailing monohulls, multihulls and even motor boats from 27 feet to 100 feet (8.23m-32m).
