With the hottest week of the year so far now behind us, this weekend looks likely to bring some relief with temperatures dropping back to a lovely summery 27-29º C in the shade. There are any popular events occurring this weekend so get ready for a busy start to the Summer here on Gran Canaria…


13-16 JULY, ARGUINEGUIN, MOGÁN
FIESTAS DEL CARMEN 

…and its the BIG weekend ahead in Arguineguín, and worth noting that the festivities will continue until Monday throughout Mogán, with the main feast day for the Virign del Carmen and also a local bank holiday from Arguineguin, to Puerto Rico, to Puerto de Mogán and up to Pueblo de Mogán. On Friday, at 18:30 Bajada de la Rama, “the lowering of the branch”. (A quirky, youthful street party, based on a pre-christian throwback to the original natives of these islands.) Expect dancing in the streets and water EVERYWHERE! Departure from Plaza del Pino Seco
22:30 El Carmen Festival at Plaza del Mercadillo and at 23:00 after party at Plaza de Las Marañuelas

On Saturday  at 15:00 Foam party at Plaza de las Marañuelas 22:00 concert by ” Ráfaga”, 23:30 after party at Plaza del Mercadillo and at 23:30 “chiringos de music” at Calle José Manuel Santana

On Sunday, at 09:00 Eucharist at the church followed by the pilgrimage promenade to the harbour for the epic Maritime procession to start. In the evening at 22:30 ‘Noche de Vísperas’, the celebrations before the main feast day with a concert from “Salvapantallas” and at 00:00 fireworks at Avenida de Las Marañuelas. at 00:15 after party at Plaza de las Marañuelas and at 00:30 Djs entertaining at Plaza del Mercadillo

On Monday, The Main Feast Day. Local holiday 
“El Carmen” – fair at Avenida de las Marañuelas from 12:00-18:00. Artisans, gastronomy, a second hand market, children activities and live music , awards for the best decorated street.
19:30 Eucharist at the church and the land procession to the beach of las Marañuelas


13-15 JULY, LAS PALMAS 
BIG BANG VINTAGE FESTIVAL

3 Day Festival of Rock and Roll and retro vintage culture trends of the 40s, 50s and 60s. Concerts, djs, burlesque, fashion, dance, exhibitions, cinema, collecting, recycling, market, classic motor, tattoo, hairdressing, solidarity barbershop, Mr & Miss Big Bang contest, competitions, food trucks, children’s workshops and more.

The Festival starts at 17:00 on Friday at Parque San Telmo 

On Saturday and for the first time in the Canary Islands, the live performance of the legendary English band Crazy Cavan ‘n’ the Rhythm Rockers at 23:00

FRIDAY 13 JULY, AGÜIMES 
NOCHES DE VINOS

“Wine nights” happening this time in Gáldar and at Plaza de Nuestra Señora del Rosario.

A night where 10 wineries and 8 restaurants present an authentic night of wines. Wineries present includes ; Mayor Monzón, Hinojo, Ventura, La Higuera Mayor, La Montaña , Señorío de Agüimes and many others.

 

 

 


FRIDAY 13 JULY, LAS PALMAS 
LPA TEMUDAS 

As part of the 22st edition of Temudas, the International theatre, music and dance  festival, there is another lovely free outdoor event happening on Friday.

At 22:00 in Plaza de Santa Ana  you can enjoy a concert by the extraordinary Antonio Carmona
Music. Duration: 90 minutes Free entry.

 

 


13-14 JULY, GRAN CANARIA
CANARIAS JAZZ & MÁS HEINEKEN

The International Festival Canarias Jazz & más Heineken is on until 22 July with 50 concerts and gigs happening across the islands. There is many free outdoor concerts . You can check all the concert and gigs happening on Gran Canaria here.

On Friday a “Africa night” with Alex Ikot and Nelida Karr in Vecindario at Plaza de San Rafael starting at 21:00

On Saturday : Yotam Silberstein Quartet and Cyrille Aimée performing in Parque Municipal de Santa Brígida and the concert starts at 21:00.


14-22 JULY, POZO IZQUIERDO 
GRAN CANARIA WIND & WAVES FESTIVAL

Gran Canaria Wind & Waves Festival 2018, The islands biggest windsurf competetion and festival.
Windsurfing, childrens activities, fashion and live concerts at Pozo Izquierdo beach.
The competition itself takes place every day at 10:00 starting from Sunday 15 July to 21.

On Saturday: showing the world cup football match at 14:00, Childrens activities starting at 16:00 with workshops and bouncy castles, and in the evening at 23:00 “Pink night” with a concert by those infamous rockers ‘Los Lola’ and music until wee hours.

On Sunday : registration at 10:00 and at 12:00 the official opening gala of the competition. There is a beer festival at 13:00 and showing the world cup final at 15:00 and at 17:00 children activities with workshops and bouncy castles.


SATURDAY 14 JULY,  TEROR 
FIESTA DEL AGUA

Teror is celebrating their ‘Water Festival’  until 28 July. you can see the full program here.

On Saturday, Romeria, the pilgrimage offering where all the people dress in traditional costumes and bring their offerings to the church. The pilgrimage starts at 18:30 and travels from Castañero Gordo to Plaza de Sintes. After the offerings there is traditional Taifas dancing at Plaza de Sintes and at 23:00 a firework show. For more faster moving music, there is DJ Promaster and Calle Latina Show at Alameda Pío XII starting at 22:00

On Sunday, a local cattle fair and contest from 08:00-14:00 at lands of Yánez Matos, just next to the main bus station in town. There is a mass in honour of San Isidro Labrador at Basilica del Pino at 13:00, followed by a cattle exhibition procession at 14:00 on Calle Real and Plaza del Pino.

SATURDAY 14 JULY, GÁLDAR
FIESTAS MAYORES DE SANTIAGO 

Gáldar is celebrating their main fiesta for the town, in honour of its patron saint, the Fiesta de Santiago de los Caballeros.

As part of the festivities there is a Tradicional Romería Ofrenda al Señor Santiago de los Caballeros de Gáldar.

The procession with an offering to the Patron Saint in which the different districts of the municipality take part along with floats from other municipalities of the island, with the offering of typical produce of Gran Canaria to Santiago Apóstol (Saint James the Apostle)

Traditional Pilgrimage offering, Romeria starts at 18:00 and travels the historic center of Gáldar to plaza de Santiago and is followed by traditional Taifa dancing at the plaza.
The former town of Agáldar, the seat of several social and political institutions, was the main settlement of the territory of the island before its annexation by the Crown of Castille. Because the leaders were recognised as Kings of the Canary Islands by the Castilian monarchs, Agáldar was tacitly acknowledged as the Pre-Hispanic capital and as the birthplace and the court of the governing dynasty of the island.

SATURDAY 14 JULY, PLAYA DEL INGLÉS 
SUMMER ACTIVITIES : TAI CHI CHUAN & CHI KUNG

Once again, this summer, the town council of San Bartlomé de Tirajana has organised free activities throughout the coming summer months.

Every Saturday, starting this weekend, there is a free Tai Chi class in Chuan (Yang Style) and Chi Kung (Various Styles), in Playa del Inglés. In collaboration with The Canary Association of Tai Chi Chuan and Chi Kung, directed by the Sifu Jordi Moya Pizarro.
