The last home league game of the season for Las Palmas, who have already got through to the play offs. Tonight they host Alaves from the Basque country. Alaves sit mid table so there is nothing to play for tonight apart from LP keeping up with their winning run of form. Due to the first game of the play offs on Wednesday night, LP have rested lots of players for these upcoming important games.

8 mins in, a ball over the top of the home defence and the Alaves centre forward is clean through on goal but somehow his chip goes just wide when he should have scored.

Eleventh minute, first corner of the match goes to the away team, but ball cleared to safety.

Five minutes later another good chance for the away team, the ball played back to the edge of the box but a weak shot is easily saved.

LP have started very slowly.  The first corner for the home team comes 23 minutes into the game.

The ball, played forward by LP, hits an Alaves defender on the shoulder and the ref gives LP a penalty. Mono steps up for the home team and slots the ball nicely into the bottom right corner. 1-0 to LP with their first shot at goal!!

With just three minutes left for the first half LP attack down the right, a good cross from Mono and Ortuno heads it into the back left hand corner , 2-0 LP, and only their 2nd chance of the game.

HT –  Las Palmas 2 V Alaves 0. The score line is a bit harsh on the away side who started the more brightly and had a couple of half chances. Las Palmas were lucky to be awarded the penalty but the 2nd goal was a good team worked goal.

2 minutes into the 2nd and a poor goal kick by Alaves puts Herman in a good position, but he shoots over when he should have done better. previous spot of the playoffs for promotion to the Liga (First Division). The fans of Las…Posted by The Canary News on Monday, 8 June 2015

On the hour LP make a couple of changes, resting Ortuno for the play offs.

62nd minute – Corner for Alaves, saved with a good punch by the home keeper Casto, gives LP a quick break. From one end to the other with a great through ball by Vicente and finished off by the sub Figueroa making it 3-0 What was a great team goal!

Straight from kick off, Alaves break down the right wing, pulling the ball back to the edge of the box with a neat finish by Juli making it 3-1.

With just eleven minutes to go moving down the right wing, Alaves puts Despotovic through on goal and he calmly finishes despite the on rushing keeper. 3-2.

With only a couple of minutes left, we see a really nice flowing move by the home team, but the shot is cleared for a corner.

Full Time – Las Palmas 3 Alaves 2

Another good win for Las Palmas, without playing their best, but this was understandable due to the amount of players being rested for playoffs on Wednesday.

Las Palmas finish in 4th place, only 4pts behind the automatic promotion place, joint top scorers with 73 goals.

They now have to face the dreaded play offs with them playing away at Real Valladolid on Wednesday night, June 10th, 19.00 KO, and the return home leg this Saturday 13th June at 19.00.

The other play off match is between Real Zaragoza and the unlucky Girona. Poor Girona were needing a home win for automatic promotion when lowly Lugo scored in the last minute to draw level at 1-1. In the last min of injury time, Girona had the ball in the back of the net but is was ruled offside. Their were lots of tears at the end from both the players and fans and it will be hard for the team to lift themselves for their semi final play offs match this week.

This could be a big advantage to LP. Lets hope they will have better luck than last year and we can make it to the promised land of La Liga,
