The Canary Islands government has given the final green light to the Plan for Modernization, Improvement and Increased Competitiveness for the area El Veril. The Regional Governing Council also approved the draft decree for the construction of Siam Park water park in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, in the south of Gran Canaria, a projects declared a strategic investment for the Archipelago.
The government green lighted, on 9 November, an approval to suspend the Insular de Gran Canaria Management Plan and the Transit Corridor Special Territorial Plan – for El Veril- which allows for infrastructure to be put in place between Las Palmas and Maspalomas (PTE-21), with the aim of enabling the management of complementary tourist facilities, like the new water park, as well as the approval of a temporary interim standard that would ensure the continuity of the planned route for the long-mooted railway line.
The dossier of approval for the modernization plan of El Veril has now gone through all the necessary formalities for public information, and has received favourable reports from the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, the Island Water Council, the Ministry of Industry, Development and Agriculture, as well as from the municipal town halls of Mogán and San Bartolomé de Tirajana. It has also been subject to mandatory strategic environmental assessment.
It seems very unlikely that anything more might still get in the way of the Siam Park attraction and all that is left is for the Government to approve the final plan for building the water park in El Veril. Siam Park Gran Canaria has been touted as the very latest in design and is to be the largest in Europe, right by the popular tourist resorts of Playa del Inglés and Maspalomas
