Canary Islands hoteliers and non-hotel establishments registered 7.8 million overnight stays this May. Overnight stays by foreign visitors increased by 13.21%, and stays by residents of Spain also increased by 13.72%.
The number of passengers in these establishments totalled 1,073,042, which is 9.8% more than in 2015. Foreigner numbers increased 11.2% and numbers of residents in Spain increased by 6%. The largest number of travellers came from Britain, followed by residents of Spain and residents in Germany.
Occupancy rates by room or apartment stood at 72%, 10 points more than the same month of last year. The island with the highest rate in rooms or apartments was Lanzarote with 77% occupancy.
The average monthly room rate (ADR) stood at €66.68 per day. Revenue per available room, standing at €48.05 per day.
The income received in total hotel and non-hotel establishments stood at €249 million, representing an increase of 24% compared to May 2015.
It seems that May might not remain as a “low season” month for much longer
