Emergency services were called to aid a man suffering minor injuries to his face and hands after a fire was reported in the early hours of this morning, at an apartment on Avenida Las Palmeras in the popular tourist town of Puerto Rico de Gran Canaria.
The man was transferred in an ambulance to the Hospital San Roque Maspalomas in Meloneras, where he is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The alert came through the 112 Emergency service at around 05:47 this morning. The Canary Islands Government Coordinating Centre for Emergencies and Security (CECOES 1-1-2) received the report of a fire in apartments located on the west hill just above the main shopping centre.
1-1-2 immediately activated the necessary emergency resources. Firemen from the Gran Canaria Consortium for Emergencies extinguished the flames that had affected the electrical installations at the apartment.
Emergency SUC staff assessed and assisted the injured person who was transferred to a hospital. Police officers then took charge of the proceedings.
