World Cleanup Day in 2025 will be on Saturday, September 20, 2025. This global event, recognized by the UN and led by Let’s Do It World, aims to unite people worldwide in cleaning their local environments and raising awareness about waste management and sustainable practices. You can participate by joining a local cleanup event, organizing your own, or taking individual action to collect waste. 

It is going to he a busy day by the lighthouse of Maspalomas as the beautiful beach of Maspalomas in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Gran Canaria, will host again the Open water swimming competition on Saturday, 20 September 2025. The modalities are 1000, 2000, and 7,400 meters, and the headquarters and the finish line are by the Maspalomas Lighthouse.

09:00 – Opening of the venue. Maspalomas Lighthouse
11:00 – Departure for the 7,400m event from El Pajar beach
12:00 – Departure for the 2,000m distance from Meloneras Beach
13:00  – 1,000 m race start.

TEMUDAS, the 29th edition of the theatre, dance and music Festival in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria between 18-28 September 2024.

From September 18 to 28, always from Thursday to Sunday, 37 companies will offer a full program of shows that, with a few exceptions, will take place in the surroundings of Santa Catalina Park.

Only the traditional Gran Canaria Philharmonic Orchestra concert ( 20 Sep) will be available at the box office, at €15 per ticket, and will be offered off-site. As every year, the Gran Canarian ensemble will take to the stage at the Boluda Corporación Marítima Container Terminal in the Port of La Luz. TICKETS!!!

The LPA BEER & MUSIC FESTIVAL returns from 19-21 September 2025 in El Parque Litoral El Rincón (next to Auditorium Alfredo Kraus) with the 12th edition of the festival to end the summer in the best way.

•LPA B&M Festival is an alternative music festival that combines live music, theater, and dance performances, and a series of educational and recreational workshops.
It also includes competitions and activities to promote social awareness.

•It attracts both established artists and emerging groups just beginning their musical careers.

San Lorenzo, a lovely little village just about 15 minutes from the capital, is a tranquil place that only gets busy on Sundays with their local Farmers’ Market, El Mercado Agrícola de San Lorenzo, and during their patron saint festivities. It’s held every Sunday outdoors from 08:00 to 13:30, with 26 stalls offering agricultural products by the producers themselves.

LPA City Race between 20-21 September 2025 in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. 

LPA City Race 2025 and LPA Women’s Race, two stages of orienteering to enjoy and explore special corners of the municipality of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria while practicing your favourite sport with participants from around the world.

Each event offers courses of different levels of difficulty, from the family-promotion category, designed for beginners with minimal technical knowledge, to competitive categories across different age groups (from youth to veterans).

LPA City Race includes 2 races + Women’s Race:

September 20, 2025: Mixed middle-distance race. Approximately 30-45 minutes of running. Mixed terrain – Middle Distance (Campus ULPGC – Tafira)

September 21, 2025: Long urban race + Women’s Race. Approximately 45-70 minutes of running. (Vegueta-Triana)

Races will be conducted using updated maps, printed on tear-resistant and waterproof paper, with electronic punching devices (provided by the organisers if needed), and live results available through our digital platform.

The lovely market town of Vega de San Mateo celebrates their patronal festivities in honour of the Apostle Saint Matthew between 5 – 28 September 2025. The weekend is always an awesome time to visit San Mateo, as the traditional weekend market takes place from Friday to Sunday. Only a short stroll away from the market is the beautiful church and the cobbled streets surrounding it.

“Local busses are always a good road trip option. From Playa de Mogán and Puerto Rico de Gran Canaria area, you can take the fast bus 91 to San Telmo station in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and then change to 303 to San Mateo (same bus station). If there is a good connection it will take just over 2 hours to get to San Mateo and at the same time enjoy some amazing views along the way.”

Valsequillo de Gran Canaria starts their Patron Saint Festivities and Fair of San Miguel Arcángel this Friday and the celebrations last until 11 October 2025.

Some of the main events of the festivities are the Noche del Pureta, Pub Miguelito, the Suelta del Perro Maldito, the livestock fair, and the Romería, a pilgrimage offering. As was the case last year, the Plaza de Tifariti and the Plaza de San Miguel will host most of the concerts and events of the festivities.

The Seafaring festivities in the north coastal neighbourhood of Sardina de Gáldar in honour of San Pedro González Telmo and the Virgen del Carmen will take place from 1 September to 10 October 2025.

Highlight this weekend:

‘Festival Viva Festival’ this Friday and Sunday in Sardina on the coast of the municipality of Gáldar.
The events will serve, as usual, to say goodbye to summer in Gáldar and will feature hours of live music.

The event, already consolidated in the cultural and festive agenda of the municipality, will be held again on Avenida Antonio Rosas de Sardina de Gáldar, offering a weekend full of fun, rhythm, and joy for young and old alike.

The coastal neighbourhood of El Puertillo in the municipality of Arucas is celebrating festivities in honour of St. Lucia between 5-28 September 2025.

Guía is celebrating the traditional ‘Fiesta de Las Marías’ this weekend. This is a celebration with enormous popular roots that celebrates each year the Vow of Vergara, the promise that the peasants of the midlands of Gran Canaria made 214 years ago to the Virgin of Guía (a Marian dedication venerated in the municipality) as a sign of gratitude for having made the cicada plague that devastated the fields and their crops disappear.

The main events of this celebration are the Bajada de la Rama, which takes place on Saturday, September 20, from the Montaña de Vergara, in the midlands of Guiense, and the Procession and Pilgrimage the following day, Sunday the 21th. During this votive fiesta, the sound of conch shells, drums, and war boxes stands out (in allegory to the elements used to scare away the plague).

Monday 22 September is also a local bank holiday in the municipality: Day after the Feast of the Las Marías

The Bajada de la Rama, “lowering the branch” starts at 17:30 from Montaña Alta Vergara Tres Cruces. They will make their to the Plaza Grande, gathering more people with them whilst ascending until they reach the church, where they repeat their devotion promise and dance. People carrying branches and blowing seashells, and tambourines.

At 10:30 ‘paseo‘, a walk with animals participating in the romeria, through the streets to the esplanade of the church.

at 12:00 ‘Procession and Romería’, the pilgrimage offering, from the main highway, entering from Calle Médico Estévez -> San José -> Canónigo Gordillo -> Luis Suárez Galván and then the church.

“Did you know that the Rama de las Marías is almost certainly the longest running of such Christian observances on Gran Canaria, since the historical records do not have previous references for other Ramas. In this sense, “La Rama” de Guía can be said to be the first in Gran Canaria.”

The Festivities of the Virgen del Socorro, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Fiestas en Honor a Nuestra Señora del Socorro, the patron of Tejeda, are held in September.  Her image is venerated in the church, which has been named after her. This is also a gorgeous time to visit, which is officially designated, one of the most beautiful villages in Spain. This year, the main program is celebrated from 30 August until 10 September 2025.
