🌞 Sun & Heat
-
UV levels remain very high (9–10) — use SPF 50+ and wear a hat.
-
Avoid direct sun between 12:00–16:00; shade is your friend.
-
Friday still brings extreme heat inland and in the south (up to 34–35 °C). By Sunday, conditions ease with highs closer to 28–30 °C in the south and only 24–25 °C in Las Palmas.
🏖 Beaches
-
South coast resorts (Maspalomas, Puerto Rico, Mogán): calm seas (~25 °C), ideal for swimming.
-
North and east coasts: moderate Atlantic swell (~1 m) and gusty trade winds at times.
-
Southwest beaches stay sheltered with light breezes — best choice for families.
-
Always protect the marine environment — use reef-safe sunscreen.
🎉 Events
-
Las Palmas de Gran Canaria: Weekend shopping and cultural events benefit from cooler evenings; expect cloudier mornings by Sunday.
-
Mogán & Maspalomas: Beach clubs and late-night events continue in warm conditions — plan for breezy evenings on exposed coasts.
-
Inland fiestas (Valsequillo, Tejeda, Agaete): Hot afternoons on Friday/Saturday; much more comfortable by Sunday with cooler, fresher air.
-
Outdoor concerts & markets across the island: Pleasant evenings under clear skies — take a light layer if heading into the hills at night.
🚗 Travel & Safety
-
Roads to the central mountains may be busy with weekend traffic; allow extra time if heading inland.
-
Strong trade winds can affect exposed driving routes in the east and north (airport corridor, Agaete–Gáldar).
-
If travelling late from fiestas, note that summit areas cool sharply after sunset (down to 15 °C), and low cloud/mist may form on northern roads Sunday night.

Overview ☀️
🌴 #GranCanariaWeather – Weekend Tips Edition (20–22 September 2025)
Gran Canaria faces a transition this weekend from the intense late-summer heatwave and calima of the past week to more typical September conditions. Friday begins very hot and hazy, especially inland and on southern slopes, but by Sunday the weather will have cooled to comfortable seasonal levels, with clearer skies and fresher trade winds.
The north of the island can expect more morning cloud and perhaps some drizzle by Sunday, while the south and west stay mostly sunny and dry throughout. Winds from the northeast will freshen, at times strong on exposed slopes and summits, while the southwest coasts (Mogán–Puerto Rico) will remain comparatively calm.
UV levels remain very high (9–10) at midday, so sun protection is essential. Sea conditions are generally good: north-facing coasts see a moderate Atlantic swell (~1 m), while the south coast beaches remain calm with water temperatures of 24–25 °C – perfect for swimming.

The weekend is always an awesome time to visit San Mateo, as the traditional weekend market takes place from Friday to Sunday. Only a short stroll away from the market is the beautiful church and the cobbled streets surrounding it.
“Local busses are always a good road trip option. From Playa de Mogán and Puerto Rico de Gran Canaria area, you can take the fast bus 91 to San Telmo station in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and then change to 303 to San Mateo (same bus station). If there is a good connection it will take just over 2 hours to get to San Mateo and at the same time enjoy some amazing views along the way.”

The main events of this celebration are the Bajada de la Rama, which takes place on Saturday, September 20, from the Montaña de Vergara, in the midlands of Guiense, and the Procession and Pilgrimage the following day, Sunday the 21th.
