This Tuesday, May 29, Canary Islands Day celebrations in Mogán will begin at IES Arguineguín school with a special event bringing together students and local seniors from the Centre for Personal Autonomy (CAP). The students at IES Arguineguín have been participating over recent months in a learning-service project entitled ‘Cognitive stimulation and accompaniment to the elderly ‘ working with older citizens from the Centre for Personal Autonomy.

The project comes to an end this next Tuesday in an event tribute to the elders which will include a theatre, tastings of typical Canarian produce and a performance by the Los Pescadores party.

From 6:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening, in the main Plaza Pérez Galdós de Arguineguín, celebrating the eve of Canary Islands Day, there will be an ethnographic exhibition that will include works of artisans being made live. Various tasting and stalls selling local produce such as cheese, honey and artisanal confectionery will be placed throughout the square.

After the show, starting at 8:30 p.m., one of the central events will be an homage to hat maker and palm craftswoman, Mogán resident, Pino Lorenzo Correa. The Mogán Town Hall seeks to recognise her dedication to the development of this type of traditional craft, from her childhood to the present, awarding her with a commemorative plaque. In addition, Lorenzo will exhibit her own work at the event.

After the tribute, a Folklore Encounter will begin with music and traditional dance that will include the participation of various Folklore groups of the Municipal Art Schools, students of the ‘Parranquiando’ project from the ‘Culturaula’ initiative, the Folkloric Association Los Pescadores , the Folkloric Association Arguín-Pino Seco and the parrillas of Guayajares and Veneguera.

The celebration of Canary Islands Day will culminate in the municipality of Mogán on May 30 from 8:00 pm in Plaza Doctor Pedro Betacor León in Playa de Mogán with a popular music concert from the group ‘Ríos de Lava’.
