It’s one month until you-know-what-mas and the town halls around the island have set up their street decorations ready to be lit. This weekend the first of the many “Switching on the lights” events will be in Las Arenas shopping centre, there is a Fashion and Friends event in Las Palmas, our bi-annual food drive Operation Kilo is on all over the island, and there’ll be a Gastronomic day in one of the most beautiful mountain villages in all Spain, Tejeda.

Here is our run little down of just some of the highlights, free and fun for all the family, for your November weekend ahead on Gran Canaria… and not forgetting that the biggest new shopping centre on the south of the island is about to open its doors for the first time this Friday, The Mogán Mall.





22-24 NOVEMBER, LAS PALMAS 
GRAN CANARIA FASHION & FRIENDS

Gran Canaria Fashion & Friends 2019 is happening all this weekend at the Edificio Miller, Parque Santa Catalina. It’s all about fashion, culture, gastronomy, music, entertainment and trends in general. Not everyone thinks of Gran Canaria as an exciting and dynamic environment overflowing with creativity, ingenuity, innovation and entrepreneurship, but for many it is events like this that are the a representative symbol of the ever increasing talents of the island youth.

Hours: On Friday 12:00-01:00, Saturday 12:00-00:00 and on Sunday 10:00-20:00

GRAN CANARIA FASHION & FRIENDS  is a festival of ideas and new trends with unique brands, the event started in 2012 aiming to creating an innovative showcase of trends and making the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria a meeting point to show off the talent and potential of the creatives of Gran Canaria and the rest of the islands. This initiative aims to raise public awareness about responsible consumption and support for small businesses. Showcasing ​​entrepreneurs and promoting extensive training programs, revealing a future optimism and the desire to take great steps forward in the island’s cultural development. 


22-24 NOVEMBER, GRAN CANARIA OPERATION KILO 

Operation Kilo, is the primary food drive initiative, organised by the Food Bank of Spain and in collaboration with Las Palmas Food Bank and a wide range of local organisations in solidarity with those most in need around the island.  Volunteers will be prominent in shopping centres and supermarkets this coming Friday and Saturday around Gran Canaria as well as on Sunday in many areas that have shops open, such as Mogán, Puerto Rico and Arguineguín .

The campaign focuses on collecting as many basic foods as possible from multiple shoppers at supermarkets over the next two days. The food donated by anyone who cares to help is collected thanks to the help of a group of volunteers (still more needed in the south!!) and the collaboration of the various supermarkets. Once the food has been collected, it is sent to the main Las Palmas Food Bank warehouse, from where it is distributed to people in need through several charitable associations, such as The Food Project in Arguineguín.

In the province of Las Palmas the food drive will be prominent at Alcampo, Eroski, El Corte Inglés, DinoSol Foundation, Makro, Spar and Lidl

In particular look out for the volunteers and collection boxes this Friday and Saturday at the entrances to major supermarkets in your area.


FRIDAY 22 NOVEMBER, LAS PALMAS 
LA ESTRELLA DE LA NAVIDAD 

In Las Palmas, one of the three main shopping centres and definitely one of the busiest, the 26 year old commercial and leisure centre Las Arenas, will have their annual giant tree up in all its glory, which is always a sight to see.

From 19:30 to 20:30 enjoy a fantastic spectacle of light and sound followed by the traditional fireworks.


SATURDAY 23 NOVEMBER, TEJEDAIII ‘ENTRE CORDEROS Y FOGONES’

The third edition of the Gastronomic day devoted to lamb, organised by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria with the collaboration of the municipalities of Moya, Tejeda, Gáldar and Guía is on Saturday in the picturesque village of Tejeda.

Between 12:00-17:00 at the Plaza del Parking Nuevo visitors can enjoy 3000 lamb tapas made in various sauces, roasted, fried, with plum and puff pastry as well as with rice. The idea is to promote the consumption of this local island produce as well as helping to revive the economy of municipalities affected by the fires.

All these delicious tasting dishes will be available for humble prices by purchasing tickets of €2 for food and €1 for drinks to accompany.

Attendees will also taste the wide variety of cheeses from the north of the Island and wines from local wineries Agala and Peña Rajada.  There will also be children’s activities, workshops and musical performances.


SATURDAY 23 NOVEMBER, TAMARACEITE, LAS PALMAS 
ENCENDIDO DE NAVIDAD 

The two year old shopping centre Alisios, in the neighbourhood of Tamaraceite near Las Palmas, are lighting up their Christmas this Saturday.
At 19:30 there will be a clown show, music and much more at the centre square of the shopping centre.

DAY 23 NOVEMBER, AGAETEXIV Clásica Villa de Moya ‘Trofeo Agaete Históricos’

On Saturday November 23 Agaete are hosting the XIV Classic Villa de Moya ‘Agaete Historical Trophy’, an event at which fans of the motor world will once again have the opportunity to enjoy one of the most anticipated events of the year.

The town halls of Agaete and Moya collaborate to organise a motor festival with the rally departing Moya and heading for Puerto de las Nieves in Agaete, to arrive around 14:00 .

Finally, the teams will depart back to Villa de Moya from 16:00 where the main awards ceremony will take place with the participation of both municipal corporations.


23-24 NOVEMBER, VALSEQUILLO 
Liga Perros Detectores – Copa Les Chiens D’Acier

For the first time on Gran Canaria, a national league cup for Detection Dogs is to be held, in Valsequillo. On Saturday and Sunday at the complejo deportivo Municipal de Valsequillo sports complex you can see dogs and their guides working in three different scenarios: Vehicle searches, indoor searches and parcel searches.

Starts on Saturday  at 10:00 and on Sunday at 13:00. Organised by Gran Canaria Les Chiens D’Acier Detection and French Ring Club


SUNDAY 24 NOVEMBER, MASPALOMAS LIMPIEZA DE PLAYA LAS CARPINTERAS

Non profit association Oceans4Life Gran Canaria invites everybody to their next beach clean:  Las Carpinteras beach, between Arguineguín and Maspalomas on the GC500 old national road, this Sunday at 11:00. Their Plan is to clean the parking near the beach and then the beach, as well as the underwater costal area. The meeting point is at the main parking area to share cleaning materials and to start the activity. ARC 2018

SUNDAY 24 NOVEMBER, LAS PALMAS
ARC – ATLANTIC RALLY FOR CRUISERS

Every November since 1986 the ARC Atlantic Rally for Cruisers has set sail from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, westward bound across the Atlantic heading to the Caribbean. Bringing together yachts from all over the world, the fleet gather in the Las Palmas sports Marina in the heart of the city.

This Sunday the main departure for “The ARC fleet” will see approximately 200 boats start their Trans-Atlantic adventure sailing directly to Saint Lucia, and spending between 18 & 21 days at sea following the classic trade wind route to land with a spectacular welcome in Rodney Bay. It truly is an awesome sight to see all those boats leaving from the capital, Las Palmas.
