🏖️ ☑️ Travel, Health & Event Tips
💧 •Hydration: Always carry your own water (bottle/coolbag).☀️ •Sun Safety: SPF 50+. Avoid direct sun 12:00–16:00. Lightweight, light-coloured clothing, hats, sunglasses, and even a hand fan will help keep you cool.🚗 •Transport: The busses are great, often with extra services added for big events. If driving, however, allow plenty of extra time around major fiestas (Agaete, Mogán, Guía), as parking and traffic are challenging during the main festivals.🛍️ •Markets: Best early, before the sun peaks and crowds build (especially at San Mateo, Playa de Mogán, La Aldea).🌙 •Evenings: Inland/highland towns can cool quickly after sunset—remember a wrap, sweater or light jacket.🔥 •Fire Risk: During the summer months no campfires or BBQs; respect all local advisories.👨👩👧👦 •Family: Most markets and fiestas have shaded “talleres infantiles” (kids workshops / games) in the late morning.
🌌 Stargazing: Perseids visible every night; best after midnight from summit zones, especially August 8–13.

Special public transport services will be available, which can be consulted on the municipal website aguimes.es/movilidad , and more than a thousand parking spaces will be available near the Industrial Park for those who prefer to use their own vehicles.
Grilled sardines, music, and festivities return to Arinaga, which is celebrating the 29th edition of the traditional Vará del Pescao (The Hauling of The Fish), a festival that pays tribute to the seafaring past of this coastal town. Starting at 17:00, the music of Yeray Socorro, followed shortly after by the folk groups Tabaiba and Merita la Pena, will provide the musical note for the event. The event officially opens at around 18:00 with the arrival of the boat with the fish at the First Aid Station on Avenida de Los Pescadores. An hour later, the pilgrimage will depart from the Risco Verde area and continue along the entire avenue.
During the procession, approximately 1,200 kilos of grilled sardines will be distributed at stands located in Soco Negro, in the Cascahuesos area, near the old La Barca restaurant, and in Risco Verde. At the latter location, reserved for people with reduced mobility who wish to enjoy the festivities, the Parrandas Viejo Cafetín and Banda Isleña will delight the pilgrims with a repertoire of folk songs. In addition, 16 small boats are expected to be present throughout the procession.
The music will continue in the square starting at 22:00, with a street party hosted by Star Music and Grupo Arena. The climax of the celebration will arrive around 23:00 with the traditional fireworks display, launched from the Pier, filling the night sky with light and colour. After the fireworks display, the music will continue on the avenue, both in the Ficus area, with performances by Yeray Socorro and Apolo GC, and near the First Aid Station, with DJ Antonio Boada.
Prohibitions and security personnel
During the fish festival, barbecues are permitted in beach areas, but are strictly prohibited on public roads. Barbecues are also prohibited in areas marked with prohibition signs, such as the wooden platforms in the Soco Negro sunbathing area, or at security posts or near any flammable objects. The use of electronic devices that play music or other types of sounds is also prohibited on both the beaches and public roads.
To ensure the safety of the thousands of attendees expected to attend the celebration, there will be 200 officers from the Canary Islands Police, Civil Guard, Local Police, and private security, as well as several drones. Additionally, an emergency and security point will be set up between Avenida Polizón and Avenida de Los Pescadores to handle any incidents that may arise. Finally, 50 chemical toilets will be deployed in various areas, in addition to around 100 trash containers so that, in accordance with the civic responsibility of attendees, the cleaning tasks can be facilitated by the personnel in charge.
Transportation and parking
To ensure that all those who want to enjoy the festival arrive safely to Arinaga, a special bus service will be available during the celebration of La Vará. The schedule can be found on the municipal website aguimes.es/movilidad/. The bus stop will be located at the entrance to Arinaga, right in the parking space next to the Urban Park. A temporary taxi rank will also be located a few meters from this same location, at the main entrance roundabout.
Those who prefer to attend the festival in their own vehicles should park in one of the 1,000 parking spaces available in the Industrial Park, the Canal, the Sports Centre, the Municipal Sports Arena, the parking area located at the corner of Calle Almirante Arriaga and Calle Juan de Lazaga, and the one located in front of the Muelle Viejo beach. This year, a new parking area has also been created, located in front of the Medical Clinic, as well as the adjacent dirt esplanade.
