The last weekend of October and it is going to be an interesting one, with the forecasts still for nice, warm weather around the island, though a chance of some cloud cover, perhaps even a drop of rain. AEMET, the Spanish meteorological agency predict highs of around 30ºC in the south and just a few degrees lower to the north and even up towards the summit.

Highlights this weekend include the 46th Maspalomas Rally, a patron saint’s romeria pilgrimage offering in Vecindario, “Change the Time” festivities in Telde, the Mercado del Puerto going all out Japan, for an exotic culture festival and a presa canario, the animal symbol of Gran Canaria exhibition & contest in Guia.

Don’t forget to turn your clocks 1 hour back, closer to Summer, on Sunday night. At 02:00 clocks are go back 1 hour back to 01:00 GMT, local standard time. 





25-26 OCTOBER, MASPALOMAS
46º RALLYE DE MASPALOMAS 

The 46th Maspalomas Rally starts this Friday and runs throughout Saturday. The test scoring forms part of the BP Rally Championship for Las Palmas 2019. The iconic Maspalomas lighthouse, will be the starting point and finishing line of the rally, which will consist of eight timed sections (four different stretches of road), with a parking and pit assistance area at the San Fernando Stadium

Friday is concentrated on the Boulevard de Maspalomas and Avenida de Colón, in the shadow of the emblematic lighthouse, the iconic image of the rally practically since its first editions, which is coming close to its fiftieth anniversary. Departure Ceremony Is from 19:00 on Friday.

The Patron Saint festivities for Vecindario, in the municipality of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, in honour of the archangel San Rafael come to an end this weekend.

On Friday, from 17.00 a children’s party, with inflatables and workshops in the Pedestrian Zone. At 22.00 a concert with “Los 600” and “Muelle Viejo”.

On Saturday, ROMERÍA, a pilgrimage offering to San Rafael .from 17:30 the carts for the pilgrimage meet up at Cruce de Sardina in front of the post office.At 18.30, Start of the Pilgrimage Offering to San Rafael from the Cruce de Sardina to Plaza de San Rafael.23.00 Verbena with the orchestras “Leyenda Joven” and “Star Music”.24.00 Grand fireworks display by Pirotecnia San Miguel (The Party Commission recommends that you enjoy them from the Fairground area).

TELDE CAMBIA LA HORA

Telde ‘changes the time’ – again in the open commercial area of ​​San Gregorio. Many activities is planned to celebrate this dynamic commercial and leisure day for the whole family.  Activities for kids, craft fair, parades, discounts and promotions and musical performances and as a novelty, this year there is a puppet show in the morning. Several streets of the commercial area will be closed to traffic.

At 23:00 ‘Ginsonics’ will liven up the night with music on Calle Poeta Fernando González Street, at the height of the intersection with Calle Luján Pérez.


26-27 OCTOBER, LAS PALMAS FESTIVAL BON ODORI 

A festival of Japanese culture this weekend in the lovely setting of Mercado del Puerto in the capital.Gastronomy, music, workshops and shops.

SATURDAY 26 OCTOBER, ARUCAS
II FERIA DE BIODIVERSIDAD AGRÍCOLA DE GRAN CANARIA Y XI FERIA CANARIA DE BIODIVERSIDAD AGRÍCOLA

It is Agricultural Biodiversity week on Gran Canaria, where the need to recover agricultural genetic heritage is being addressed, in order to ensure local food quality and island food sovereignty. Actively promoting policies that aim to regenerate traditional and local varieties in the rural environment and promote legislation that gives farmers freedom to produce and market their own seeds.

This is a perfect day out for all interested in growing things when the week culminates on Saturday with the II GRAN CANARIA AGRICULTURAL BIODIVERSITY FAIR AND XI AGRICULTURAL BIODIVERSITY CANARY FAIR.

The fair is held in the Experimental farm of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, located on the coast of Arucas by the main exit from the GC2 north highway. Stalls, farmers, demonstrations and much more.

Organized by Tierra Fertil, which is made up of a group of professional farmers, amateurs and people interested in agroecology.

26-27 OCTOBER, SANTA MARIA DE GUÍA28º Exposición Monográfica Nacional del Presa Canario

This is for all you big dog lovers. More than a hundred of the best Presa Canarios meet this weekend at the municipal pavilion ‘Beatriz Mendoza Rivero’ in the municipality of Guía. The 28th National Monographic Exhibition of the Presa Canario is organized by the Royal Canine Society of Spain.

These emblematic dogs are coming from all over the archipelago, the Peninsula, Germany, France, Poland, Serbia and even the United States.

It is a unique and exceptional opportunity to discover and admire these beautiful Canarian dogs,  also the animal symbol of Gran Canaria by law since 1961, something that many people do not know. This type of initiative allows  new generations to get to know this charming Canarian breed and is also one of the ways you can contribute to its conservation.

On Saturday, the doors of the municipal pavilion will open to the public at 16:00. The categories judged this day are: Minor puppy male, Minor puppy female, male puppies, female puppies, young males, young females.

And on Sunday, the exhibition will begin at 11.00 and with several categories from champions to veterans.

Among the activities planned for Sunday, and along the lines trying to bring “the benefits” of this breed to future generations, the program includes, starting at noon, a children’s contest where the little ones are in charge of show with their Presa Canarios.


SUNDAY 27 OCTOBER, SANTA MARIA DE GUÍA
LA RUTA CULTURAL “PATIANDO”

Santa María de Guía on Sunday celebrate a new edition of “Patiando”, an attractive Cultural Route that will allow you to discover the beauty and uniqueness of the streets, squares and the courtyards of almost a dozen of the stately homes in the historic centre of the City. Guided tours, live music, theatre and dance are all part of the program of activities.

At Plaza Grande from 11:00-17:00, a lovely gastronomic offer through a Food Truck and various stands for tasting and sale of local cheese, some of the best wines with Denomination of Origin of Gran Canaria, beers, spirits and artisan jams

There is a organised walking tour ( in Spanish ) but you can also just find your way to all the different locations and enjoy the historic helmet of Guía. The route starts at 10:30 at the front of the church.

 

 

 

 

 


SUNDAY 27 OCTOBER, LAS PALMAS IV GRAND PINK RUN 2019

Las Palmas is going to be buzzing with pink T-shirts on Sunday with the celebration of the 4th Grand Pink Walk in benefit of ACCM, the Canarian Breast Cancer Association.

The 3 km walk starts at 09:30 from the Plaza de La Música, behind the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium, and arrival at Santa Catalina Park. The planned 8km run has this year been cancelled due to security concerns..

At the end in the park there will be children’s activities such as bouncy castles, live music with La Quinta Marcha, and zumba with Mueve con Yoaho.


SUNDAY 27 OCTOBER, TEROR
Tradicional Romería del Rocío y ofrenda floral a la Virgen del Pino

This Sunday in Teror the traditional Romería del Rocío and floral offering to the Virgen del Pino takes place, which will depart at 11:30 in the morning from the grounds of Marina, in San Matías, travelling to the Basilica del Pino carrying the cart of “sin pecado” (sinless) and accompanied by the music and dance of the rocieras

At 12:30 noon the meeting will take place at the Puente del Pino and at 13:00 the Mass will be officiated at the Basilica of Teror sung by the Royal Brotherhood Choir and the Floral Offering to the Virgen del Pino.

For more than 40 years, the Royal Brotherhood of Our Lady of Rocio in Las Palmas return to make an annual pilgrimage offering to the Virgen del Pino. Teror dresses up to live this great Pilgrimage in  Andalusian traditions and clothing, dresses and Canarian styles also join.
