This is the second weekend of June and summer is in full swing on Gran Canaria with a multitude of events, fiestas, celebrations, concerts and other happenings, along with some relief from the “scorchio” weather we’ve been seeing with the first heat wave of the summer having passed over in recent days, temperatures are looking set to lower back down to a more typical seasonal averages and beautiful summer days across the archipelago, with highs of 25º & 26ºC in the shade. It’s a very busy weekend with loads of events, activities and patron saints’ festivities going on and the start to the midsummer celebrations and the San Juan fiestas are all fast approaching.

7-8 JUNE, GRAN CANARIA – OPERATION KILO

Operation Kilo is the primary community food collection drive in solidarity with those most in need around the island and will be prominent in shopping centres and supermarkets this coming Friday and Saturday around Gran Canaria.

The Campaign focuses on collecting as many basic items of food as possible from multiple supermarkets over just two days. The food is donated by any citizens who care to help, thanks to the help of a large team of volunteers  (still more needed!!) and the collaboration of the various supermarkets. Once the food has been collected, it is sent to the main Las Palmas Food Bank warehouse, from where it is distributed to people in need through several charities, including The Food Project in Mogán and Elomar in Maspalomas.

In the province of Las Palmas the food drive is set to happen at Alcampo, Eroski, El Corte Inglés, DinoSol Foundation, Makro, Spar and Lidl supermarkets, all you do is purcahse a few simple, non-perishable items to contribute along with your shopping..

In particular look out for the volunteers and collection boxes this Friday and Saturday at the entrances to major super markets in your area.

 


SATURDAY 8 JUNE, World Oceans Day – TELDE BEACH CLEAN UP AND GUINNESS WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT 

Gran Canaria is aiming to beat the Guinness World Record for the largest number of nationalities participating at the same time in a beach cleanup. This astounding initiative by the Oceans4life non profit environmental association is their second attempt to break a Guinness World Record.

The main event is happening on World Oceans Day, this coming Saturday 8 June at 10:30 at a beach called La Gaviota, best accessed from the road between the Las Terrazas Shopping Centre and the Mirador shopping centre in the municipality of Telde.

7-9 JUNE, AGÜIMES – GRAN CANARIA AIR BATTLE KITEBOARDING FESTIVAL 2019

The Gran Canaria Air Battle KiteBoarding Festival is the largest KiteSurf festival ever held on Gran Canaria. The event will be centred arou Playa de Vargas from 7-16 Junes in the municipality of Agüimes

From the 7th to the 10th of June you can enjoy the Open Canarian and Spanish Cup competitions with the Waves and Big Air and Strapless Freestyle, Race and Jumps and Woo Competitions. From 12 to 16 you can see the GKA World Cup. GKA Freestyle World Cup. You will see the best riders in the world live and in action.

During the festival there will be different activities aimed at all audiences. Food trucks and music

Kiteboarding is a sport that has experienced spectacular growth in recent years, becoming an Olympic modality that will be represented at the Olympic Games in Paris 2024.


7-9 JUNE, INFECAR, LAS PALMAS – FISALDO

The 20th edition of Fisaldo the outlet sales fair of opportunities 5-9 June 2019 in the capital.  The fair is promoted by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria and organised by INFECAR.

A must for all those who want quality products at the best prices in the market. Textile, Footwear, Accessories, Furniture, Decoration, Used Vehicles, Sports, etc. There will also be fashion catwalks, talks, live music, gastronomy, raffles, activities and much more.

Opening hours : 10:30-21:00 every day until 9 June

At INFECAR. 
Tickets € 1.50 in general. People with disabilities, pensioners, children under 12 and registered unemployed have free access. 


SATURDAY 8 JUNE, LAS PALMAS MOTOR SHOW EL SEBADAL

Almost one hundred cars and motorcycles, and then some, in the area located on that little of spit of land just north of the capital known as La Isleta, will take part in the third El Sebadal Motor Show, “Feria del Motor” beside the port of Las Palmas. Also present will be various auxiliary companies and services offering workshops and other services.

If your current vehicle needs any kind of revision, change of tire, or new spares, or you have a mechanical breakdown, you can consult with the automotive service companies at the fair. Without forgetting that Saturday is also a day to be with family, the fair will offer a daycare centre, for children to enjoy the day while their families can see or drive their future vehicle, and for the not so small and adults, diverse activities will be offered in various forms of entertainment, gastronomy, etc.

The Motor show is from 10:00 to 14:30. 



SATURDAY 8 JUNE, LAS PALMAS – XXIV QUICK PAINTING CONTEST – MESA Y LÓPEZ

The commercial area Mesa y López in the capital will, this Saturday, become a living art studio; now in its 24th edition, the Quick Painting Contest returns once more. It is an open theme, style and technique and for all ages. The previous edition had about 200 painters participating.

Participation is totally free and can be signed up to until June 7, at the headquarters of the Business Association of the Mesa y López Commercial Zone, calle Galicia, 25-7º E, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., or calling to the phone 928 297 083, or by filling the form that you will find on their page.

Competition takes place between 10:00 and 15:00, on the Rambla de la Avenida Mesa and López Avenue, closer to the Plaza ode España. 


SATURDAY 8 JUNE, ARTENARA – AGRICULTURAL AND FARMERS’ MARKET

The highest altitude mountain village on the island, Artenara, have their agricultural and farmers market on Saturday from 11:00-15:00 at the picturesque little Plaza de San Matias. This gorgeous mountainside market will be enlivened with traditional folk music groups singing and dancing of “Aires del Nublo”.

The municipal village of Artenara is situated in the mountainous central area of the island and 1,270 metres above sea level. Located right in the heart of the Gran Canaria Biosphere Reserve with majestic views of Gran Canaria from its lookout point.


PATRONAL FESTIVITIES ON GRAN CANARIA 

6-9 JUNE, PUEBLO DE MOGÁN,  THE LOCAL PATRON SAINT’S FESTIVITIES – SAN ANTONIO EL CHICO

On Thursday, the proclamation for the local festivities with feature music performance by Banda de Agaete starting at 21:00 in Parque Nicolás Quesada.

On Friday,  X Memorial for Juan José Rodríguez Sánchez, with folkloric group el Mogán and with soloist from different islands. at 21:30 at Parque Nicolás Quesada, followed by a DJ night at 23:30 at Plaza Sarmiento y Coto.

On Saturday, the main Romeria  pilgrimage offering to San Antonio El Chico, (Saint Anthony, the boy) during which numerous old fashioned carts, street party parrandas and various groupings of locals, all dressed in traditional costume, will participate. The Procession starts at 19:00. There is a rosary mass at 19:30 at Parque Nicolás Quesada. Traditional night of Taifa dancing at Parque Nicolás Quesada. The night will end with some after partying at 23:30 at Plaza Sarmiento y Coto.

On Sunday, there will be a play park for kids between 11:30-14:30 and 16:00-20:00 at Plaza Sarmiento y Coto.  Later in the evening a concert at 21:00 in Parque Nicolás Quesada.  Events continue until June 16


7-9 JUNE, SANTA BRIGIDA – FIESTAS DE SAN ANTONIO

Santa Brigida in the northeastern inland part of the island is celebrating festivities in honour of San Antonio de Padua between 7-16 June 2019. This beautiful old town was where the British aristocrats and merchants of the 18th and 19th century first came to visit on health holidays, making it one of the first tourism destination on Gran Canaria.

On Friday at 20:00 -Pregón, the proclamation for the local festivities (Centro Cultural de la Villa) followed by the Inauguration of the XLV Edition of Florabrígida 2019 at Parque Municipal with wine tasting and local products. An opportunity to enjoy a varied exhibition in which birds, plants and flowers are the protagonists and here the whole municipality has taken part to make the municipal park a little piece of paradise. Florabrígida is open between 7-16 June from 10:00-21:00 ( on the final day 16.6. until 20:00 )

On Saturday, at 12:00 VI Beer festival enlivened by music performances (at Recinto Ferial). later in the evening at 22:00 Verbena, a after party with Banda Larga  group and Dj Promaster (at Recinto Ferial).

On Sunday, at 11:00 Meeting of the Folk Music groups at Calle Nueva. The 3rd Day time Family fiesta with animation and activities including a foam party,  starts at 12:00 at Recinto Ferial. At 12:30 “Arrastre de Ganado” Cattle drawing at Calle Nueva

 


7-24 JUNE, LAS PALMAS DE GRAN CANARIA –
FIESTAS FUNDACIONALES LPGC

This year marks the 541st Anniversary of the foundation of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain’s first Atlantic City colony. From its origins on June 24th 1478, first named  El Real de las Tres Palmas (The Royal Town of the Three Palms), the city celebrates the anniversary of its foundation every summer with an intense program of cultural activities and open-air shows.

On Friday, Pregón, proclamation and the opening gala at 20:30 at Plaza de Santa Ana. at 21:00 concert by Nancy Fabiola Herrera with Symphony Orchestra of Las Palmas.

On Saturday, Ten courtyards and two squares in the historic centre, Vegueta will host twelve free to entr concerts in the fourth edition of “Music in the heart of Vegueta”. Programs for all audiences of which each formation will perform three sessions of 20 to 25 minutes each to accommodate the maximum possible number of spectators. A musical tour that will allow the public to enjoy in the order they want both the architectural heritage of Vegueta and some outstanding music.

On Sunday, between 10:00 to 14:00, the first meeting of the Network of Artistic Schools of Gran Canaria on Plaza de Santa Ana and Plaza de San Antonio Abad. There is also the Music in the park event at 12:00 by Eme Alfonso, in José Antonio Ramos Auditorium located in Parque Doramas. Free admission until full.


8-10 JUNE, VALLESECO – FIESTAS DE SAN VICENTE FERRER  

Fifty days after Easter Monday the Festivities of San Vicente Ferrer, patron of the municipality, are celebrated, commemorating the day on which the saint’s effigy was brought from the Church of Teror to his final parish in Valleseco. Depending on the dates of celebration of Holy Week, these holidays may fall in mid-May or early June. This year this date falls on June 10 and is also a local bank holiday.  This is main weekend of the colourful patron saint celebrations in Valleseco, a mountain community that was founded officially in 1842 marking 600 years since the death of Saint Vincent [1419-2019]

On Saturday, a children’s party “Pa to the day” between 11:00-17:00 with different inflatables, dolls and workshops in the municipal square.

At 17:00 Fiesta Holi in the municipal square with a DJ. Later at 19:00 “Holi Pal Color Festival”, a colorful cavalcade through the different streets of the town, with colours of all shades of the rainbow being playfully thrown at participants, events are to be animated by DJ. ( from ceo Rey Juan Carlos I school to the municipal Plaza.

On the eve of the big day, on Sunday starting at 12:00, “Fiesta Huevo duro y Egg  y Pincha de la Sidra”, a festival day that will have the distribution of more than 1500 hard boiled eggs for all attendees and a sip of the locally made cider, with about 500 litres being given away. With the performances of Los Sabandeños and the group Los 600, ending the day with the show “Ayer, Hoy y Siempre”, remembering Antonio Machín.

The day will also be enlivened with Live music performances at 12:30 and 13:30. Children’s party with inflatables and workshops at 16:00 and the festivities goes through to midnight when there is a pyrotechnic show. The big day, Monday, in the morning, there will be a cattle fair between 08:00 -12:00, the craft fair starts at 10:00 at the municipal plaza.  A religious act, the Solemn Eucharist in honour of San Vicente Ferrer at 12:00 at the church, then a procession through the streets, and a cattle parade. During the morning the village square will be dedicated to roast pork, traditional gastronomy of pork delicacies, blood sausages, chorizos, meat, mojo or pork paella, all accompanied by music from mariachis. Distribution of these delicacies from 14:00 at a very humble price.  The festivities comes to an end at 20:00 with the music concerts of the group Atlántida and Los Gofiones in the municipal Plaza.


SUNDAY 9 JUNE, VILLA DE MOYA – MOYA DULCE

A “sweet” fair is happening on Sunday in Moya, framed in the Patron Saint festivities of San Antonio de Padua.

A gastronomic Fair “Moya Dulce 2019” between 10:00-15:00.

11:00-15:00 Children activities at plaza de la fuente de Nuestra seÑora de Candelaria. At 13:30 a Tribute to Marc Anthony at Calle Miguel Hernandez.

 


SUNDAY 9 JUNE, SANTA MARIA DE GUÍA – II FERIA DEL MOTOR

As part of the festivities in honour of San Pedro, La Atalaya will hold the 2nd Motor Fair on Sunday, an event that will feature the participation of the most prominent car dealers, in an open exhibition of new cars,  electric cars, used cars and electric motorcycles. There will also be a sample of classic cars, a Kart Circuit will be installed inside the Plaza de San Pedro, from 11.30- 13.30 for children.

This 2nd Motor Fair, held from 10:00 to 15:00 in Plaza de San Pedro and all its surroundings, will also have activities for children.

7-9 JUNE, LAS PALMAS – LPA BEER & MUSIC FESTIVAL

Ticket event ** the 8th edition of the festival. Three days of music, good beer and above all, an incredible atmosphere, at the back of Santa Catalina Park. More than 4,000 square meters of outdoor space, 20 hours of live music, 23 beer brands, gastronomic area, activities, children’s area. Rock, Pop, flamenco fusion, electronics and a spectacular setting.

SATURDAY 8 JUNE, GÁLDAR – NOCHE DE VINOS Y PINCHOS

Have you ever visited the ancient island capital of Gáldar? The capital of one of the two ancient kingdoms of the island before the Spanish conquest of Gran Canaria. A delish opportunity to see the town centre, declared of Historical interest in 1981 preserving various notable buildings. On Saturday, as part of the V Jewellery Contest, where Gáldar chooses the best wines of Gran Canaria, there is a Night of Wines and Pinchos at Plaza de Santiago starting at 19:00. You can taste wines and gastronomy delights with €1, €2 and €3 prices. Event is enlivened by live music performances.

SUNDAY 9 JUNE, LA ALDEA – MOTOFEST 

Concentration of Motorcycles will be making their grand tour on Sunday. The parade will leave from shopping center Las Ramblas at 10:30 and will make their way to La Aldea to be arriving there at and Plaza La Alameda at 13:30
