Halfway through June already and summer’s nearly here! The Gran Canaria weather over the next few days, according to the Spanish state meteorological agency, is predicted to be warm with just of hint of cloud in the south and a touch more to the north. This weekend Las Palmas are celebrating… well…themselves, there is a patron saint fiesta happening, El Tablero are having a traditional harvest fair and there is to be a Motor fair in El Sebadal, Las Palmas.

Not forgetting of course the FIFA World Cup 2018 has just started in Russia and Spain is playing this Friday against Portugal so you can expect many bars to be showing the games, filled with football fans.

15-17 June, Las Palmas 
540th founding celebrations of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria 

Las Palmas is celebrating its foundation all this month between 8-24 June with an intense program of cultural activities and open-air shows.

Friday 15 June the 10th “Nights of Boleros” at 21:00 at Plaza de Santa Domingo
At 22:00 Jenny and the Mexicats at Parque Doramas.

Saturday 16 June Opera for everyone at 20:30: Turandot Puccini at Plaza del Tenor Stagno (back of the Teatro Pérez).  Also from 20:30 at the Catedral de Santa Ana the VII Cycle of concerts of historical organs of Gran Canaria and at 21:00 the 10th “Nights of Boleros” at Plaza de Santa Domingo

16-17 June, Moya
Fiestas en honor a San Antonio de Padua

Moya, on the north of the island, celebrate their patron saint’s festivities, in honour of Saint Anthony of Padua.

On Saturday, Eucharist in the church at 18:00 then the main Romeria, the pilgrimage offering in honour of Saint Anthony of Padua starting at 19:00 followed by traditional Taifa dancing in front of the church of Nuestra señora de Candelaria.

On Sunday, starting at 09:00 in Plaza Tomás Morales, the 28th annual Cheese Tasting Fair of Villa de Moya. With the participation of artisans from the 14 cheese factories registered in the Association of Ranchers and Cheesemakers of Moya, offering the opportunity to taste and even purchase a great variety of cheeses produced in the municipality. Simultaneously, the XVII Tasting of Pastry products from the Villa de Moya, with traditional deserts including Bizcochos de Moya y Suspiros de Moya alongside a variety of pastry products from the municipality.


Saturday 16 June, El Tablero, San Bartolome 
XXI Feria de Zafra 

The neighbourhood of El Tablero will celebrate their XXI Feria de La Zafra on Friday 15 and Saturday 16 June. This year the central theme will be dedicated to the role played by families in the development of tomato cultivation and its contribution to the prosperous evolution of their socioeconomic environment.

Organised by the San Bartolomé de Tirajana town hall’s department of Culture and Action, the Harvest Fair is held every year as a cultural and festive event with the double objective of honouring the memory of the pioneer residents and, also, remembering the importance of the agricultural work that they carried out to earn their livelihood.

sample of local handicrafts, children’s craft workshops, traditional Canarian games, exhibition and sale of gastronomic produce, a reading corner, exhibitions of the native stick play and martial arts and the famous shepherd’s leap used for centuries by goat herders to cross this island’s mountainous terrain, separate workshops of chácaras and drums and of creation of rag dolls will also play a novel role alongside typical and traditional snacks of the harvest.

During the afternoon there will  be a show of work songs that characterised the harvests, from a resident group based in Castillo del Romeral; there will also be a representation of the baile de los palos “stick dancing” by the theatre group La Cuadrilla of El Pilar Senior’s Centre, of El Tablero.

Saturday 16 June, 
Feria del Motor El Sebadal 

Almost one hundred cars and motorcycles, and then some, will take part in the Motor Show of El Sebadal, the area located on the little of spit of land just north of the capital known as La Isleta, by the port of Las Palmas. This year will feature a greater role for electric and hybrid vehicles which will be on display and in the testing area to help you discover their qualities, not only their power but their silent nature more in tune with the environment. Also present will be various auxiliary companies and services offering workshops and other services. A novelty this year is to be an incursion by two-wheeled vehicles. Over 4000 people visited the Motor show last year, its expected to be more this year.

If your current vehicle needs any kind of revision, change of tire, spare, or you have a mechanical breakdown, you can consult with the automotive service companies at the fair. Without forgetting that Saturday is also a day to be with family, the fair will offer a daycare centre, for children to enjoy the day while their families can see or drive their future vehicle, and for the not so small and adults, diverse activities will be offered in various forms of entertainment, gastronomy, etc.

The Motor show is from 10:00 to 14:00.


Saturday 16 June, Telde 
Romeria a San Juan Bautista

Festivities begin in the original founding village that became a Gran Canaria’s second city in honor of San Juan Bautista – Patron of  Telde.

On Saturday, the main romeria, a pilgrimage offering starting at 19:30 from Calle Lic. Gilberto Monzón Mayor to Plaza de San Juan.

Join Lilly, the Russian personal trainer, in the lovely southern urban park, ‘Parque Sur de Maspalomas‘ for a FREE and fun hour of stretching and a workout.

Sunday 17 June, Teror
Mercadillos de Teror 

The surroundings of the Basilica del Pino are transformed each Sunday by the weekly market, one of the oldest street markets on the island with more than two centuries of history. Typical local produce such as sausage, black pudding, sweets, cheese and bread, religious items, textiles, handicrafts, etc.

And of course there is also the new Sunday ‘Farmer’s Corner’ that premiered back in of April, with a new sales space located in Plaza de la Alameda Pío XII, in front of the Episcopal Palace, also from 9:00 to 15:00, offering agri-food products (vegetables, fruits, vegetables, medicinal herbs, spices, cheeses or honeys).
