The last weekend of March, just as Spring starts it seems Summer is just around the corner, or at least it will be 1 hour closer with the clocks Springing forward, from 2am to 3am between Saturday and Sunday, perhaps for the last time, if the European Parliament has its way. Carnival celebrations in Arguineguín, Mogán are coming to a head, as well as opening and continuing in other towns this weekend, with plenty of other events going on around Gran Canaria to be enjoyed.
Weather wise, we’ve had a mixed bag this week, what the locals terms as a “Potaje” with rainstorms, blue skies and Saharan Calima dust all mixing to make a spring stew of various kinds of day, and this weekend looks to start off a little wet on Friday, though should dry out for Saturday and Sunday, so the big parade in Arguineguín is likely to be well attended.
29-31 March, Mogán
Carnival Costa Mogán
It’s the big weekend for the Mogán Carnival. The Theme for the 2019 is “Africa”. With parties and events having built up all week in Arguineguíns main Plaza Negra.
On Friday 29 Party Wigs, a great street party with the Djs Francd, José Viera and the electro-latino singer DsC. There will also be various activities, jugglers, acrobats and other performers from the MSB Circus Association starting from 20:00.
On Saturday the 30th, the Day of the parade, expect more than 10,000 people in fancy dress wandering through the streets of Arguineguín. As with every year, the parade departs from El Timonel, at the top of Pino Seco, at 19:00 and arrives a few hours later at Plaza Negra, where the rest of the Carnival events are being held, to make way for the Mogollón with the Dominican Combo, La Mekanica by Tamarindos and DJ Promaster.
On Sunday 31 at 17:30, the youngest in the family will be the stars of a big costume party where there will be a photo call board, chocolatada and carnival pancakes. There will also be a costume catwalk with activities led by Rafaelillo Clown and DJ Aridane.
After the children’s activity it will be time for “the wake of the sardine” at 19:30, which will be accompanied by the Charanga La Aldea-music group and all those wishing to say a tearful goodbye to the Carnival Costa Mogán 2019. The cremation will occur after the sardine leaves fPlaza Negra to go to Las Marañuelas beach at 20:15, where attendees can enjoy a big fireworks display.
29-31 March, Telde Carnival Telde
Telde is celebrating Carnival until 7 April. Their theme for this year is “Paris”.
On Friday, the opening gala (Pregón) on Plaza de San Gregorio, starting at 20:30 and is followed by Murgas, those satirical music groups singing humor filled songs of the current fairs and people. Party continues until 3 am with music.
On Saturday, Telde cambia la Hora- Event at Plaza de San Gregorio. Telde celebrates changing the time closer to summer with artisan fair ( 11:00-24:00) and many activities for children ( 11:00-14:00 & 17:30-20:30) and all with Carnival mood. In the evening there are concerts by Tio Matt at 19:30 ( Avenida de los constitución), Flash Funk at 21:00 ( Plaza de San Gregorio) and Los Lola at 22:30 ( Calle Poeta Fernando González)
On Sunday, Its children carnival festivities, starting at 17:00 at Plaza de San Gregorio.

Sunday 31 March, Villa de Moya La Feria Artesanal y Comercial Moya en Carnaval
The Artisanal Handicraft and Commercial Fair in Moya is in Carnival spirit with more than fifty stands all along the main street of the town, where visitors can acquire a wide representation of handicrafts, textiles, pastries or gastronomy, such as cheese and other produce from local agriculture.
A day that, in addition, will be enlivened from early on with activities and children’s games by the side of the church of Our Lady of Candelaria and various performances like those of Murga Las Suspiritas (murga moyense), and a concert from the group Son 21.
In addition there will be lively street parades Fun tour of the main streets of the Moyenne, where, as tradition dictates, there will be plenty of masks of all kinds and the most original costumes.
