The Canary Guide Weekend Tips 8-10 November 2019
AEMET, the Spanish meteorological Agency, predict “cool in the air”. Temperatures to the south around 24ºCin the shade with some cloud cover, and even a small possibility of rain. Temperatures will be higher along the coastlines. The summits of Gran Canaria will see a big shift in temperatures with predictions of around 15ºC and blustery clouds and rain. There is even a chance of snow above 1800 meters on Friday and 1900 meters on Saturday so with a little bit of luck, the island’s highest point could even receive a frosted topping.
The wonderful events planned for you to go and experience this weekend include the return of WOMAD Las Palmas, bringing the World of Music, Arts & Dance to the capital, Winter Pride event in Maspalomas with a series of glamorous free shows in the evenings at shopping centre Yumbo, a Manga festival in INFECAR and a Beer Festival in Gáldar to mention just a few.
On Monday 11th November there will be a rare astronomical event as the planet Mercury transits between the Earth and the Sun, an event that will be clearly visible but the next time this happens will not be until 2032.
Star Guides and Lens Lovers, Astrotrek, will have telescopes set up at The Market Shopping Centre in Puerto Rico de Gran Canaria to observe the event which starts at half past midday and will continue to be visible till sunset.
So, if you would like to watch this rare event as Mercury transits across the face of our nearest star, then The Market Puerto Rico is the place to go.
