Strawberry, the great treasure of Valsequillo
Summer is coming and the VII Valsequillo de Gran Canaria Strawberry Fair returns with delicious new features, including a prize for the best strawberries and a children’s masterclass.
The lovely tranquil little town of Valsequillo is preparing for one of the gastronomic events of the year and one of the most popular rural fairs on the island of Gran Canaria. Strawberry Fair arrives this Sunday May 5 for its fair that over the last seven years has grown in popularity with the humble strawberry of Valsequillo now well recognised and highly valued by consumers.
More than 1000 kilos of strawberries will be distributed for visitors to enjoy simply as they naturally are, with cream, or as delicious juices, smoothies or ice cream, courtesy of strawberry farmers in the area.
The first contest will be held to award the best fresón of the municipality. Judging by colour, size and quality of the fruit.
There will be a much anticipated dessert contest that includes prizes both in professional categories and for amateur confectioners. Attendees will be able to taste desserts selected by the jury, who will assess creativity, presentation and enhancement of the product, as well as awarding prizes to the winners. And there will be no shortage of strawberry jam, which will also distinguish professionals and amateurs.
Numerous stands with the best produce from the area will be available, as well as strawberries with cream, sweets, milkshakes and ice cream made from strawberry. Valsequillo aims to delight its visitors, who can also attend guided tours of strawberry farms in the area, which on this occasion will be organised as walks that depart from the town centre. There will also be various children’s activities and live music to make the VII Feria de la Fresa de Valsequillo a day out for the whole family.

The VII Strawberry Fair of Valsequillo is organized by the Employment Agency and Local Development of the Town Council of Valsequillo de Gran Canaria with the collaboration of the Ministry of Primary Sector and Food Sovereignty of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria and with the sponsorship of Frescanarias, Spar Valsequillo and Bankia
