December is here and so it begins. There are markets, Christmas lighting-events, Mogan’s Avocado fair, wine, Christmas markets, gastroevents and much more besides, so pick your favourite because its going to be a busy weekend. You can be pretty sure that every major town will have some event going on during the weekend to celebrate the start of December and the season to be jolly.

BELÉN DE ARENA DE LAS CANTERAS – SAND ART NATIVITY 

The Belen de Arena of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, one of the main tourist attractions of Christmas in the city and the island, has started the countdown to its opening. The nativity scene will be open for the public from Friday.

In its 13th edition , there are 8 sculptors from six countries, Canada, Belgium, Russia, Latvia, Australia and France.


FRIDAY 30 NOVEMBER, TABLERO, SBT
ENCENDIDO DE NAVIDAD

Christmas lights will be lit on Friday in the southern shopping center El Tablero. Starting at 19:00  enjoy a lovely event with pretty lights and pyrotechnics, as well as a Christmas concert by Rainbow Gospel choir.


FRIDAY, 23 NOVEMBER, SANTA BRIGIDA 
NOCHE DE VINOS VINTAGE 

The event, postponed from last week due to the bad weather is happening on Friday. The closing of the “Santa Brígida with Wine” program  ‘the Night of Wine Vintage’ -event, and it’s all about wine and rock and roll, with tastings of wines with designation of origin on Gran Canaria and gastronomy from around the municipality on Calle Nueva, starting at 20:30.

The 50’s style Rock and Roll band Canaria Brave Missy & The Cavaliers will get you dancing with their catchy rhythms from this era.

 

 


FRIDAY 30 NOVEMBER, LAS PALMAS 
NIGHT OF GOSPEL

A night of gospel music to be enjoyed at Parque  Doramas on Friday as part of Christmas program by Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Starting at 21:00 and free entry until seats full. Gospel music by the Municipal Symphonic Band of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Latonius & Rainbow Gospel Choir.

 

 


30 NOV – 1 DEC, SANTA LUCIA 
MERCADO NAVIDEÑO

Christmas market and activities in Vecindario around the Teatro Víctor Jara area on Friday and Saturday. A market with gift items and Christmas decorations, crafts, baked produce and floral offerings, a children’s Christmas cookies workshops, face painting among other activities.

On Friday, the market is from 17:00-21:00 on the pedestrian zone. Evening includes  activities for kids as well as music performances during the evening.

On Saturday the main market from 10:00-21:00 and day includes children’s activities, music and much more.


1-2 DECEMBER , VEGA DE SAN MATEO
CHRISTMAS FAIR

Vega de San Mateo is celebrating their Feria de Navidad /Christmas Fair this weekend. On Saturday and Sunday La Vega will host a multitude of activities in the surroundings of Rambla de la Constituciòn and Calle Principal.

On Saturday the fair is from 10:00-20:00 and at 12:30 a performance from a Gospel choir Mlou at Plaza del pino ( in front of the church ) and at 18:00 a theatre performance

On Sunday, fair is open from 10:00-15:00 and at 12:00 a performance by Vocal Siete ( A lovely male singer group ) and Grupo Atlántida.

 


SATURDAY 1 DECEMBER, TEJEDA
GASTROFEST

Ropa vieja food dish and surprise tapas, wine tasting, cheese tasting, children’s activities and concerts will animate the Gastrofest Tejeda event, the first trade fair that this summit municipality will host on Saturday to publicize its varied cuisine and business.

Plaza de Nuestra Señora del Socorro will house a dozen exhibitors from 10.30 until 16:00, including six restaurants that will offer tapas of ropa vieja in their style and two other proposals that each will elaborate. The tapas will cost €2 euros and drinks, 1€.

In addition, the Naroy de Tejeda cheese factory will propose montaditos with their cheeses, while the Agala winery will have a wine tasting and other associated companies will sell breads, fruits and vegetables. This initiative includes the participation of the painter Juan José Domínguez who will make personalized shirts.

The event will also include inflatable castles, craft workshops, donkey rides and a pastry shop for the little ones where they can prepare cookies. All this animated with the live music of El Botellín parranda group and the music band Aseres.


SATURDAY 1 DECEMBER, LA ALDEA
MERCADILLO NAVIDEÑO

La Aldea, the westernmost municipality of the island is feeling the holidays with their Christmas market- event happening on Saturday at the open comercial area.

10:00-14:00 market
10:30-13:30 Children train, bouncy castles and music
11:00 cooking class
19:00 Christmas lighting event and half an hour later music by the church choir.

 

 


SATURDAY 1 DECEMBER, LAS PALMAS 
A VERY BRITISH CHRISTMAS BAZAAR 

The annual Las Palmas winter fair on Saturday at the gardens of Holy Trinity church, located in the old colonial residential area of Las Palmas known as Ciudad Jardin (Garden City).

From 11.30-15.30.

Come for the mulled wine and mince pies, tea and cakes, raffle, tombola, bar and BBQ, kid’s activities, stalls and to say hello to friends.  And sausages!


1-2 DECEMBER, ARGUINEGUIN, MOGÁN
4th AVOCADO FAIR

On Saturday Feast of the Farmer, starting at 10:30 am in the Plaza Pérez Galdós.

A colloquium on agriculture in Mogán will be held in which they will project past and present images to see and analyze the evolution of the sector. Attendees will enjoy a show of humor by Maestro Florido and live music.

On Sunday,  Mogán is celebrating its Winter Avocado Fair. This 4rd edition of Avocado fairs is held between 10:00-14:00 at Plaza Perez Galdós in Arguineguin. The Fair will involve local producers who will exhibit and make known not only their avocados, but also other products grown in Mogán, such as mangoes, papayas, guava trees, bananas and of course the oranges.

There is also going to be a gastronomic area, where visitors can taste different dishes made from avocado as well as exhibition of artisans.


SUNDAY 2 DECEMBER, MOGÁN
GLORIA MOGAN OPEN WATER 

The 2nd edition of the “Gloria Mogán Open Water” swimming event, within the Open Water Series circuit. The contest has its finish line in Playa de Las Marañuelas, (Arguineguín)

Saturday morning will start with the distance of 10,100 in Playa de Mogán, and continue with the departures for the 4,600 meters from the Puerto Rico beach and finish with the departures for the distance of 2,100 meters from the Anfi beach.

Mogán is one of the few European tourist destinations that, in full winter season, has a swim crossing in open waters, with unbeatable weather conditions; an oscillating water temperature between 17º and 22 ºC and an ambient temperature between 18º and 24ºC in the shade.

Agricultural and craft market of Tejeda on Sunday morning. There will be workshops for children and Canarian music by the “San Rafael” parranda.
