Well it is already the last weekend of October and it’s going to be an interesting one, weather wise… instability is forecast and after heavy storms inundated the archipelago on Thursday, there is probably still more rain coming, though probably less intense. Many joy filled events are also happening  this weekend but remember adverse weather might cause some of the outdoor ones to be cancelled or postponed.  That said, Gran Canarians are a hardy bunch, and so most are likely to go ahead.

FIESTAS PATRONALES SAN RAFAEL

The Patronal festivities in honour of San Rafael are coming to an end this weekend in Vecindario.

On Friday, starting at 17:00 a Children’s party, with inflatables and workshops in the pedestrian zone and at 22:00  a tribute to some of the greats of Latin music: Rubén Blades and Juan Luis Guerra, along with the Panamaribe Orchestra,  presenting their show: “Al Son de Luna”,  I’m sorry but tonight no reggaeton is played.

On Saturday, the main ROMERIA offering to San Rafael, the archangel. At 17:00 starting to gather in Cruce de Sardina in front of the post office. At 18:30 the Pilgrimage Offering begins its journey to Plaza de San Rafael, where the offerings are presented.  At 23:00 the Verbena, an after party with the Orchestras “Young Legend and Star Music”.  At 24:00 a great fireworks display by “Pirotecnia San Miguel” ( best place to enjoy is the recinto ferial, fairgrounds).

On Sunday, Día de San Rafael . Day of San Rafael and end of festivities.
Between 09:00 to 14:00 there is a Livestock Exhibition Fair next to the Recinto Ferial.  Solajero Party with DJ Abián Reyes at 15:30.
in the Evening at 21:00 Great End of party with the performance of the Canarian humorist Manolo Vieira, presenting his new show.

26-27 OCTOBER, MOYA
XIII Ruta de Tapas Villa de Moya

The thirteenth edition of its famous Tapas Route, with some of the best gastronomic offerings from the main fifteen participating restaurants from the coastal strip of the municipality to the summit, the XIII Villa de Moya Tapas Route on Friday and Saturday. Do not worry, there’ll be no rain inside the restaurants. There is also a free bus service, from 13.00 to 22:00, so you can enjoy all the lovely tapas on offer from the coast  El Pagador to Fontanales. Each for the modest price of €2,50 for tapa plus drink: Mahou beer, wine or soft drink. There is also a book fair going on at the same time at Plaza Tomás Morales.

Restaurants that participate along the route will be: La Costa; Soledad Big Waves; Grill Casa Pedro; Los Dragos; Los Tilos; Casa Juana; La Relojería; La Droguería; El rincón de Moya; Bar Churrería Moya; La Trastienda vinos y quesos; Sibora; and Los Cachorrúos.

SATURDAY 27 OCTOBER, LAS PALMAS 
HSR LPA NightRun

The 6th Hospitales San Roque Las Palmas Night run takes place on Saturday, starting at 20:30. Distances are Half Marathon and 10k with 4500 runners of which 40% are female and 20 different nationalities participating. This will also mean some traffic restrictions during the sporting event.

JAPAN MEET 

The third edition of the Meeting of Japanese Cars “Japan Meet” , a solidarity event, held on Saturday and Sunday on Plaza Negra in Arguineguin.

Saturday 17:30-23:30. At 17:30 cars arrive to Plaza Negra and start cruising around the municipality. Between 21:00 – 23:30 there will be music, merchandise stalls, children’s activities, and workshops and at 22:30 Drifting exhibition.

Sunday 10:00-16:00. Cars arrive at the market place from 10:00. Between 11:00-15:30 Children’s activities, workshops, bouncy castles, video games, pedal cars, music and much more.
13:30  Drifting exhibition, 14:30 a competition for the loudest car.

MERCADILLO DE SEGUNDA MANO Y TRUEQUE

Agaete, through the Department of Environment, organize their first second-hand and barter market taking place in Parque de Los Chorros starting at 11:00.

Well worth taking a trip up to the north west to catch the unique vibes in this lovely little coastal enclave.
