The first weekend of July and there are loads of excellent events to go, see and experience. In particular on the south of the island, the festivities in honour of our lady del Carmen, patron saint of fishermen and sailors, starts in Arguineguin, there is a huge mucky mud party in Santa Brigida, massive world class free performances kick off a month of Temudas, the theatre, dance and music festival, in the capital, as well as various markets up and down the island offering all sorts of local produce for the coming weekend on Gran Canaria. Not forgetting,the most famous circus in the world starts their nearly 3 month run this Sunday under a purpose built big top in Meloneras.

The summer “rebajas” sales are now getting in to full swing, in the shops of the main commercial centres, so take advantage of these summer bargains if you are on the look for deal.

5-7 JULY, ARGUINEGUÍN, MOGÁN
FIESTAS DEL CARMEN 

The main summer festivities in honour of ‘La Virgen del Carmen’, the patron saint of sailors and fisher-folk starts this Friday in Arguineguín.  The fiestas continue from 5 – 21 July in Arguineguin and in Playa de Mogán between 16-28 July. The program includes a wide variety of religious, traditional, cultural and festive events for everyone to join.

Friday, at 18:00 the opening of a photographic exhibition in the David Silva municipal sport complex.
At 20:00 Petanque (traditional card game) tournament and at 20:30 Artisans will gather at Plaza de las Marañuelas.
21:30 Opening Gala with an homage to “Antoñito Segura”, a parranda musician.
23:30 After party at Plaza del Mercadillo with Djs on Calle Jose Manuel Santana.

Saturday 16:00 Petanque tournament and
19:00 the main Romeria, the pilgrimage offering, to Virgen del Carmen. Departure from Avenida del Muelle to Plaza Pérez Galdós, by the main church, followed by traditional Taifa dancing on the square.
At 23:30 after parties at Plaza del Mercadillo and on Calle José Manuel Santana with DJs.

Sunday, 1st Trial Exhibition (4×4) at 11:00 at Calle Damasco (in front of the school I.E.S Arguineguin).
Children’s entertainment with different activities between 16:30-20:30 at Plaza and Avenida de las Marañuelas and later in the evening “Arguineguín Canta y Baila” (Arguineguín Sing & Dance) event on Plaza de las Marañuelas 21:00.


5-7 JULY, LAS PALMAS  TEMUDAS

The 23nd edition of the International theatre, music and dance festival is on until 2 August in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, starting this weekend. During the festival there are a wide range of extraordinary free outdoor performances and concerts. A magnificent spectacle for people of all ages, a month of world class performance mainly in the outdoors and totally free to attend. Happening this weekend :

ON FRIDAY THE NO FIT STATE CIRCUS & MOTION HOUSE, present “BLOCK” at 21:00 at Plaza de Santa Ana. An extraordinary 40 minute contemporary circus performance from the UK.

A powerful fusion of dance and circus that pushes the limits of both forms of art.

ON SATURDAY AND SUNDAY : PLANÈTE VAPEUR, “DRAGONAUTES” at 21:00 in the surroundings of Santa Catalina park. An awe inspiring 105 minute “theater machines” performance from France.

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria receives an imposing creature whose gargantuan form, replete with roars, will be manifested ten meters above the ground.


SATURDAY 6 JULY , La Atalaya (SANTA BRIGIDA)
“FIESTAS DEL BARRO”  

The 28th edition of the Clay/mud Festival in the neighbourhood of La Atalaya (meaning Watchtower in English) and one of the most popular events the “Traida del barro”, literally ‘bringing of the mud’

The main day of festivities will be on Saturday 6 July:
From 11:00 the Insular Ceramic Market with the island artisans
14:00 music performances
14:30 Local lunch with the great paella
16:00 ascent of the mud with Isleña band.
17:30 Gran Embarrá con la Charanga La Aldea, literally a mud party and at 19:00 Shower and warm broth in the Annex Solar of the old health centre.
20:30 “Árbol del Fuego” (tree of fire) light show with music 


SATURDAY 5 JULY, LAS PALMAS  CANARIAS JAZZ & MÁS HEINEKEN

The Heineken International Canarias Jazz & más Festival is on until 21 July with around 50 concerts and gigs happening across the islands. You can see all the concerts and performances here, including the ticketed events.

On Saturday, at Plaza del Pilar, Guanarteme with “Noche África”, starting at 20:30. Three concerts to enjoy and all free : -Atcheré -Ferenc Nemeth Freedom Trio featuring Lionel Loueke and Chris Cheek -Kennedy Administration


SATURDAY 6 JULY, LA ALDEA 
SUMMERGETE 2019

The open commercial area, ZCA Aldea in the westernmost municipality of Gran Canaria  is celebrating their “Summergete” event from 09:00-14:00 with a market on Calle Real from 09:00-14:00, workshops, bouncy castles among many other activities.


6 JULY- 22 SEPTEMBER,  MELONERAS CIRQUE DU SOLEIL  “TOTEM”

The most famous circus in the world is in town, in Meloneras, just next to ExpoMeloneras. The white big-top tent is up and the shows start this weekend, 6 Jul . Tickets starts at €39:00 and they are selling fast. Tickets are available in many places including the circus’s own page 

TOTEM” :  Journey into the Evolution of Mankind. The show follows the human species from our original amphibian state to our ultimate desire to fly. The characters evolve on a stage, evoking a giant turtle, the symbol of origin for many ancient civilisations. TOTEM explores the ties that bind Man to other species, our dreams and our infinite potential.


6-7 JULY, TEROR 
Fiestas patronales en honor a San Isidro y Santa Mª de la Cabeza

The tiny little neighborhood of San Isidro in Teror, began its patron saint festivities a week ago, in honour of San Isidro and Santa Maria de la Cabeza.

Enjoy a very traditional small district fiesta with the traditional Pilgrimage on Saturday, July 6 from 19:00 in the afternoon. The groups “Ágora”, “The Indians of Las Lagunetas”, “Stacato”, “Parranda de Teror” and dancers from the “Guacimara del Mar” group will accompany the carts.

On Sunday, July 7, the Livestock Fair will take place, starting at 10:00 in the morning; and at 12 noon the Solemn Mass sung by the parish choir “Virgen del Pino”, which will be followed by a procession with the images of the saints, accompanied by the band “Bravo”.


6-7 JULY, VEGA DE SAN MATEO  “FIESTA DEL AGRICULTOR O DE LA ALJORRA”

On Saturday and Sunday there will be a traditional “Farmer’s Feast” in Vega de San Mateo at Plaza del Mercado.

Tastings of traditional products, folkloric performances, demonstration of traditional activities, etc., and much more for the enjoyment of all those who want to enjoy this traditional festival in San Mateo.

On Saturday 11:00-19:00 and on Sunday 10:00-13:00


SUNDAY 7 JULY. PUERTO RICO, MOGÁN
MERCADILLO AGRÍCOLA Y ARTESANAL DE PUERTO RICO

Farmer’s market and handicrafts. Every fortnight, on a Sunday, in an ideal setting surrounded by palm trees and to the sound of typical Canarian music, early in the morning there is a farmers and crafts market. Locally grown fruits and vegetables, cheese, sweets and so much more.  The market is open from 08:30-14:30.
