Despite the rain clouds to end the week, the weekend ahead is looking clear and sunny with plenty to do both outdoors and in.

It’s one month until you-know-what-mas and Gran Canaria has already had its first Switching on the lights events with many more happening this weekend. In Las Palmas, one of the three main shopping centres, Las Arenas, will have their annual giant tree up in all its full glory, which is always a sight to see. The now famous Sand Art Nativity on Las Canteras beach its on its way and will be open at the beginning of December.

The North American tradition of Black Friday – ( Viernes Negro) has been popularised in the Canary Islands and marks the starting signal for the Christmas shopping frenzy and the opportunity to get great deals, with huge reductions on electronic goods and all sorts of other goodies.

Here is our run down of just some of the highlights, free and fun for all the family, for your Gran Canaria weekend ahead…


FRIDAY 23 NOVEMBER, LAS PALMAS
CHRISTMAS LIGHTING – CC ALISIOS

The newest built shopping centre on Gran Canaria Alisios is celebrating the ‘Christmas lights on’- event on Friday at 19:30.

Being Black Friday also means the place is likely to be awash with bargain hunters… and bargains!


23-24 NOVEMBER, MESA Y LOPEZ, LAS PALMAS 
BLACK FRIDAY FASHION STREET

On Friday and Saturday, the Mesa and Lopez Black Friday Fashion Street in Las Palmas will offer leisure activities for the whole family from the central market to the Ramblas de Mesa y López between Plaza de España and Calle Galicia.

The latest in fashions at bargain prices, taste a wide variety of foods, different musical groups will encourage your afternoons of shopping and entertainment.

On Friday, childrens fashion catwalk at 18:00, Gran Canaria Big Band with a tribute to Frank Sinatra at 20:00 and  a concert of Aseres at 22:30. Refreshments area open from 12:00-00:00.

On Saturday master class of hair and makeup at 10:oo, A concert of Los 600 at 20:00 and a concert of Salvapantallas at 22:30. restauration area open from 09:30-22:30.


23-24 NOVEMBER, EDIFICIO MILLER, LAS PALMAS 
MODA CALIDA – FASHION AND FRIENDS 

Gran Canaria Moda & Amigos will be the weekend showcase of island talent with over a hundred innovative exhibitors, of which 40% participate for the first time in this platform that exposes new trends in fashion.

The fashion catwalk is hosted in an outdoor marquee with seating for 180 people and with two Led screens on the sides so that attendees do not lose details of the collections. Twenty-two brands, 12 of them from Gran Canaria Moda Cálida, will show their designs this Friday and Saturday from 17:00 to 21:00 and on Sunday from 11:00 to 13:00 and from 16:00 to 19:00.

A gastronomic offer with four restaurants, four cocktail bars and a premium coffee stand in the Picnic Zone. A space where there will be musical performances by djs, in addition to live performances from David Roma, Mimi Barber, Brave Missy and The Cavaliers, Acoustic Sunset and Aseres.

FRIDAY, 23 NOVEMBER, SANTA BRIGIDA 
NOCHE DE VINOS 

The closing of the “Santa Brígida with Wine” program is on Friday, with the Night of Wine Vintage  event, tastings of wines with designation of origin on Gran Canaria and gastronomy from around the municipality on Calle Nueva, starting at 20:30.

The 50’s style Rock and Roll band Canaria Brave Missy & The Cavaliers will get you dancing with their catchy rhythms from this era.

 


SATURDAY 24 NOVEMBER, TEROR 
1ª MUESTRA DE VINOS, QUESOS Y PRODUCTOS LOCALES DE TEROR

Teror celebrates its first wine, cheese and local product sampling event on Saturday,  from 10:00 to 18:00, with a dozen or so stalls that will offer traditional gastronomic products with a great tradition in the municipality. The Plaza del Pino will be the scene of the event that includes a wine tasting with pairing, at 13:00, where 4 types of wine will be offered with their corresponding pairings prepared by different restaurants in the municipality.

 

 


SATURDAY 24 NOVEMBER, MOYA
II EDICIÓN DE CORDEROS Y FOGONES EN MOYA

Gastronomy dedicated to lamb be centred this weekend in Parque Pico Lomito in Moya, from 12:00 to 17:00  in the second edition of this tasty gastronomic day of lamb and stove.

The event is promoted by the Association of Producers of Northwest Cheese Gran Canaria, PROQUENOR, and organized by Cabildo de Gran Canaria and by the City Council of Villa de Moya, City Council of Gáldar, City Council of Santa María de Guía de Gran Canaria and City Council of Tejeda where one will enjoy elaboration proposed by the tasting stands and musical performances, workshops and children’s activities.

 


SATURDAY 24 NOVEMBER, MOGÁN
REGGAE CAN FESTIVAL

The Reggae Can Festival disembarks on the island of Gran Canaria, specifically in Playa de Mogán on Saturday, to delight lovers of this musical genre with Ruts & La Isla Music, Rasta Glover, Rayco de Los Guayres and DJ Albwoy Selektah.

This is the fourth year of this Festival that aims to make visible a part of the musical culture existing in the Canary Islands for more than 20 years with the support of the Canary Islands Government, the Canary Islands Network, CajaCanarias Foundation and with the collaboration of the City of Mogán.

At 21:00 at Plaza Doctor Pedro Betancor León, the first chords of ‘Marley Live’ will be played, a tribute concert to Bob Marley.

 


SATURDAY 24 NOVEMBER, LAS PALMAS 
MUSICANDO

Boleros, fado, traditional Canarian music and then some all come together on Saturday evenings in a season that started in September and goes on to 15 December in the third year of the Musicando program. All eight concerts are held in the Parque Doramas auditorium in Las Palmas, starting at 21:00 and are free entry until full.

This Saturday, Brazilian music is allied with the sophistication of jazz and world music. The singer, guitarist and songwriter Thaïs Morell, accompanied by the new formation, Musicando Ensemble, directed by Yul Ballesteros.

 


SUNDAY 25 NOVEMBER, AGAETE
MERCADILLO “SEGUNDA MANO Y TRUEQUE”

Return of the second hand Market Villa de Agaete – After the success of the first edition, the City Council of Agaete invites all residents, neighbours and visitors to haggle and bargain.

Parque de Los Chorros will host, on November 25 starting at 10.00 am, the celebration of a new edition of the second-hand market organized by Agaete, through their Department of Environment. It also has the aim to protect the environment from irresponsible consumption and the reuse of products and materials

SUNDAY 25 NOVEMBER, VALSEQUILLO
XI FERIA EMPRESARIAL DE VALSEQUILLO

Fifty merchants and artisans are taking their products to the streets this Sunday, at the Valsequillo Business Fair, which due to unforeseen causes had to be postponed last weekend. Parades, children’s entertainment, live music and tastings of products

The Fair starts at 10:00 with the opening of the exhibitors. At 11:00 there will be a parade with batucada, workshops and activities for the little ones, while another parade, this time with children’s characters, will be repeated at 13.30.

For her part, Valeria Gugliete, from Argentina, will offer a puppet show ‘Do not touch my hands’ at 12.30 in the Theatre and the Jerte group from Tenerife will give a concert at 13.40.

One of the most anticipated moments of the day will be the live draw of seven gift checks each worth at least 100€ and two nights at an island hotel. Next, the Association of the Friends of Tenteniguada will offer tastings of free products, such as Carnival tortillas, chicken drumsticks and bread with chorizo, specified the president of the Association, Francisco Robaina.


SUNDAY 25 NOVEMBER, LAS PALMAS 
ARC 2018 – MAIN FLEET 

Always a spectacle to see,  the ARC fleet of approximately 200 boats will start their Atlantic adventure on Sunday from Las Palmas, sailing directly to Saint Lucia, spending 18-21 days at sea on the classic transatlantic trade winds route. The ARC offers a two week pre-departure programme, fun competition for cruising sailors, or competitive racing, and a spectacular welcome in Rodney Bay.

SUNDAY 25 NOVEMBER, LAS PALMAS 
ORGANIC MEETING POINT – ECOLOGICAL FAIR 

On Sunday in Sotavento at the marina, along with the farewell of the ARC Regatta, the Organic Meeting Point ecological fair will be held.

All activities for children are free, in addition activities for adults, yoga, meditation and nutrition talks are also free.

The fair consists of more than 40 stands. Fresh pasta, organic fruit, handmade bread, “super foods”, detox shakes, Bio cosmetics, sustainable appliances, 7 ecological restaurants with a multitude of vegan options, sustainable and recycled fashion, healthy cocktails and lots of music.

All this in a sporting environment that will make us enjoy a healthy and fun day.
