The Belen de Arena 2018 in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, on Las Canteras Beach, is one of the main Christmas references of the city and the island, and has once more begun to come to life. A total of 8 international sculptors have begun modelling the different traditional Christmas scenes so that this artistic project of ephemeral sculpture can begin to receive members of the public from the first weekend of December.
The sculptors who participate in the modelling will dedicate their work to the defence of the rights and welfare of children. To that end they have displayed the message ‘A child can change the world’ on the sand on the capital city’s main beach, to launch this year’s initiative.
The City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, through the Department of Tourism, and the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, have returned to join efforts to promote the implementation and promotion of the “Sand Bethlehem” among citizens and tourists visiting the capital in December.
The sand Bethlehem in 2017 was visited by some 170,000 people over a month of exposure.
