A peculiar weekend ahead with unpredictable weather facing Gran Canaria several planned events have been rescheduled. Let’s hope for the best… but just in case it is certainly a good idea to double check just before heading to any event planned for the outdoors.
The Almond blossom festival in Tejeda already rescheduled once for this weekend, after adverse weather on the mountain caused delays, has been postponed once again but this time there is no confirmed date that they will try again. Las Palmas Carnival has experienced multiple changes to their program too. As you can probably tell, bad weather and Gran Canaria do not go together well…

The capital’s Carnival has not been very lucky with the weather this year and many events have been postponed to another day. Here are the latest events scheduled for this weekend. The Body Painting contest has been rescheduled for Tuesday at 21:00 in Santa Catalina
On Friday , the eleccion of the Carnival Queen on stage in Parque Santa Catalina. Starting at 21:00 and with 12 sponsored young ladies competing for the title. At 22:00 the carnival night street party at Plaza de Canarias – at the back of the Santa Catalina park
On Saturday
at 11:00. Children’s carnival at Plaza de Santa Ana. (Rescheduled from last Saturday, February 3 as part of the Vegueta Day Carnival).
at 12:00 the Day time Carnival in the old quarter, Vegueta from 12:00-20:00. Carnival will dress the streets and squares of the historic district on Saturday morning. Obispo Codina, Calvo Sotelo, Pelota and Mendizábal streets and Mesa de León square will all be filled with masquerades/mascaritas for the sixth edition of this dlightful festival event.
at 17:00 Carnival of the Sun. On the other side of the city, near the old harbour, Paseo de Las Canteras will be filled with colour, rhythm and fantasy dancing to the rhythm of Carnival groups
at 21:00 Pre-selection for Drag Queen in Santa Catalina with 35 amazing shows from hopefuls wanting to commit for the big prize.
at 22:00 Carnival night. Carnival nights are the meeting point for the fun of the fancy dress mascaritas. Plaza de Canarias – at the back of the Santa Catalina park – takes on new life after daytime.
On Sunday,
at 12:00, Children’s carnival in Parque Doramas. (maintains the originally scheduled date).

Mogán Carnival in the neighbourhoods
On Friday; Children’s costume party, starting at 17:00 – with games, workshops, fashion catwalk and of course Carnival pancakes with chocolate. (Shrove Tuesday, Mardis Gras is coming next week…)
Saturday 10 February, Artenara
Mercado Agrícola y Ganadero
The highest altitude mountain village on the island, Artenara, have their agricultural and farmers market on Saturday (despite the inclement weather!) from 11:00-15:00 at the picturesque little Plaza de San Matias.
This gorgeous mountainside market will be enlivened with traditional folk music groups singing and dancing.
A lovely car ride indeed to go to see some of the most impossibly beautiful places on Gran Canaria. Well worth a trip up to the summits if the weather permits!

The perfect opportunity to combine shopping and the Carnival spirit in the newest shopping center on Gran Canaria, CC Alisios up in the north; named after the prevailing nort east winds…. From 17:00-21:00

The second hand fleamarket takes place in the surroundings of the southern town hall every Sunday, with a lot of great bargains to be found.
This Sunday, like every second sunday, there is a farmers market too.
