One funky weekend ahead with a range of unpredictable weather including sun, rain, thunderstorms and snow up at the summit continuing. A few events already have been postponed, so make sure to double check if planning to attend outdoor event. Carnival celebrations are to continue in Las Palmas with the exception of the Daytime Carnival in Vegueta which has been postponed until next week. Carnival in Agüimes is starting this weekend. Almond blossom festivities happening during the weekend in Tunte whilst festivities in Tejeda has been postponed.
It is the first weekend of the month so Triana, the shopping district in Las Palmas are planning extra activities and discounts are great on the cards. Also the Cabildo de Gran Canaria’s network of museums are open for free to visit this weekend and its all indoors so perhaps the best bet for this weekend schedule of events.

The capital of the SBT municipality is called “Tunte”, the place receives its name from the settlement of an aboriginal town of the same name, where after the conquest, various settlers of hispanic origin settled. In the old quarter of the village, still known as Tunte, stands the Church of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, consecrated in 1922.
Tunte are celebrating their 7th edition of Almond Blossom and their farmer’s market over the weekend for locals and visitors. The event organized by the Town Council for the socio-economic promotion of the inland communities includes a trekking walk, tapas route, craft and agricultural fair, a technical presentation on the almond tree and its cultivation, tasting and musical performances. This year incorporates the first contest of table olives seasoned with mojo with the aim of promoting the cultivation of olive trees

The Triana shopping district in Las Palmas, our capital’s oldest original merchant quarter, are having their main open weekend event, as they do every first weekend of the month.
Carnival workshops for the kids and musical performances for the adults. Activities focused on the carnestolendas, which started in Las Palmas last Friday, January 26.
On this occasion, the activities take place in full on Sunday 4, as Saturday it was to coincide with the now postponed Daytime Carnival originally planned in the neighborhood of Vegueta and in the vicinity of the commercial area, perhaps its just some fine shopping for this Saturday after all … =)

On Saturday: The murga “Ni quito ni pongo” starts the Agüimes Carnival with its particular parade for the little ones. At 12:00 from Plaza de Nuestra Señora del Rosario, the procession will parade through the streets of the Old Town Casco of Agüimes with floats, music and with the traditional papagüevos ( the big paper mache puppets). At the end of the parade, in front of the portico of the Church of San Sebastian, the traditional burning of the shearing will take place. The party will continue at night with the grand opening parade at 21:00 and after party at 23:00 at Plaza del Rosario

Every fortnight, on a Sunday, in a setting surrounded by palm trees and to the sound of typical Canarian music, early in the morning there is a farmers and crafts market.
Locally grown fruits and vegetables, cheese, sweets and so much more. This weekend also the new market season starts, so there are also tastings of typical Canarian delights.
