September rolls forward with uncanny speed and there are many wonderful events happening this weekend around Gran Canaria to go and explore. Including one of the oldest festival events in Veneguera, patron saints’ festivities, a World Peace Day event and World clean up day celebrations, two beer festivals, a wedding fair and much more to delight and amuse you.
AEMET, the Spanish State Meteorological Agency are predicting highs of 27º in the south and around 26º in the Capital with a chance of cloud cover around the island for the weekend and highs of at least 24º in the shade for the whole island. Not too bad for September.
20-22 SEPTEMBER, MOGÁN
30º ENCUENTRO VENEGUERA
The lovely hidden little neighbourhood Veneguera ( just 16 km from Playa de Mogán ) are hosting their 30th anniversary edition of Veneguera Meeting, one of the oldest ethnographic and environment festivals in the archipelago.
The event begins on Friday with the planting of native flora from 20:00 at Cardones y Tabaibas, a night with an astronomy theme from 21:00 and a chill-out session starting at 21:30.
On Saturday, for you day trippers, its “Veneguera de Día” between 11:00-20:00 there will be a craft and gastronomy fair, workshops, exhibitions and stands, multi-adventure activities, children’s activities and concerts including ‘Cantos de Mujer’ (Songs of Woman), starring an outstanding collection of female voices.
The night of music at the football field begins at 20:00 and will last until early in the morning with performances from Raimundo Amador, Domingo Rodríguez “El Colorao”, Taburiente, El Vega, El Chojín, Arístides Moreno, Ruts & La Isla Music, Canarian Song Workshop, Yeray Rodríguez, Germán López, Tinguaro, Pedro Manuel Afonso, Paca Rosa Suárez, Alba Pérez, Carla Vega, La Veneband, Kilema and Nayaband.
GLOBAL Bus are offering a special service during the event with greater frequency of journeys between Puerto de Mogán and Veneguera. 20-22 SEPTEMBER, LAS PALMASFESTIVAL INTERNACIONAL DE LA PAZ
The 2nd International Solidarity Festival on Gran Canaria in Las Palmas and Las Canteras area, celebrates World Day for Peace and Non-Violence declared by the UN, where non-profit associations participate with institutions and well known local personalities from the cultural, political, religious, educational, artistic, social and health sectors attended also by Ricard Rotllan, one of the disciples of His Holiness Dalai Lama. With various activities such as parades, workshops, concerts, talks, a solidarity march, and the release of rescued turtles back to the ocean.

Event starts at 14:00. The lovely mountain market town of Vega de San Mateo celebrate their patronal festivities all this week in honour of the Apostle Saint Matthew. This weekend sees the main celebrations with a Romeria pilgrimage procession, a cattle fair and a religious procession and even a Drag Queen Gala.
There is a lovely old church in the town with a 17th century statue of San Mateo – Saint Matthew – the town’s patron saint.
On Friday the faithful celebrate a eucharist mass at 19:00 in the church which is followed by traditional Romería, pilgrimage offering, at Plaza del Pino from 20:00. The evening continues with a big street party until 03:30 at Plaza del Mercado.
On Saturday, the main cattle fair is from 08:00 at the parking area of the sports centre. At 09:00 Mass of the Romeros (Pilgrims) is followed by a religious procession from 12:00. Sunday dance at 11:00-15:30 at Plaza del Mercado with Los Gofiones with the group ‘Luz de Luna’ 20-22 SEPTEMBER, SANTA LUCÍA ‘La Arancadilla’ in Pozo Izquierdo
The windy south eastern enclave Pozo Izquierdo says goodbye to summer with fiestas and water parties in ‘La Arrancadilla’Summer is over and the neighbours of Santa Lucia and visitors have the opportunity to see out the last days of summer with the ‘La Arancadilla’ party in Pozo Izquierdo. The celebration begins this Friday night from 22:00 in the Barranquillo with the “Night of Parrandas”.
On Saturday from 16.30 there will be the Foam Party and in the evening the ‘Guajara Show’ aims to enliven the festival.
Sunday at 12.30 will see the Pasacalles, a giant water party, with buckets of water being thrown throughout the streets of Pozo Izquierdo, the Guiniguada band will liven up the party. They will leave from the stage in the direction of the beach. The organisation asks participants to respect the tour of the music band without watering them.
At 14:00 this Sunday DJ Ray Ramos will liven up the Verbena del Agua. At 17:00 there will be an exhibition of gorras on stage. At 19:00 it will be the end of the party of ‘La Arrancadilla’.
So it’s all about music and water for the parties . Arucas is celebrating ‘World Tourism Day’ a week early with their World Beer Festival on Saturday 21st of September. There will be music concerts on Calle León y Castillo, a performance from the symphonic band and a gastronomy area on Plaza de la Constitución, all brought together for a celebration devoted to world tourism day.
SATURDAY 21 SEPTEMBER, WORLDWORLD CLEAN UP DAY Celebrating World Clean up Day, the Ocean4LifeGranCanaria team have an official beach clean organised in collaboration with Dream Homes Gran Canaria at Bahia de Formas from 11:00 to 12:30.
If you cannot make the beach clean, there is also something else we all can do. Ocean4LifeGranCanaria is suggesting that everyone who has the opportunity go to any area here on Gran Canaria and pick up a symbolic 21 items of litter. Please take a photo of the 21 items you collect and post it on social networks with the hashtag #apoyoc4lifegc #worldcleanupday #cleangrancanaria.
This inspirational non profit association will then randomly pick a winner who will receive :A reusable glass water bottle, a metal straw, a cotton shopping bag, a bamboo toothbrush and an Oceans4life t-shirt.
So, to celebrate 21/9 pick up 21 items. ( or as much more as you can find! ) For the 9th year running, great fun is to be had over the next three Saturdays at the Maritim Playa hotel in Playa del Inglés. The first Saturday this weekend will se some original Spatenbräu and Bavarian delicacies.

Closing the festive Fiestas Del Pino program for 2019, celebrating the virgin of the pines, Patron Saint of Gran Canaria, i La Verbena Canaria this Saturday. On Saturday, a Romeria, the pilgrimage offering procession, in which all the resident neighbourhoods of the municipality participate and many folk music groups play. The Romeria starts at 18:o0 from the Church and surrounding area which is a good place to aim to enjoy this traditional event.
The winning harvest offering carriage will represent the municipality in the pilgrimage of Our Lady of the Pine in Teror next year.

‘Arucas and the sea 2019’ is happing in the municipality from September 19 to October 4.

To coincide with the occasion of the premiere of the International Ocean Film Tour Vol 6 on September 25 at the Teatro Guiniguada in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Oceans4Life Gran Canaria has organised a beach clean at El Confital, from 17:00 on Sunday. The island government, the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, are supporting the event with materials and insurance (based on prior registration) for the participants. The insurance is for volunteers over 18 years old only. All minors must be accompanied and will be the responsibility of the adults responsible for bringing them.
