First game of the new season and LP entertain Huesca with temperatures of 30ºc at kick off.
The game nearly didn’t go ahead due the the terrible forest fires up in the mountains. Both teams came out before the game wearing T-shirts supporting the fireman for their bravery.
Good quick start by LP with a young looking side. First good shooting chance for LP on 21mins when Galarreta fires a shot from outside the box but it’s just over. A couple of half chances for the visitors but some good defending denies them a scoring chance.
Best chance for Huesca arrives on 29mins – a good cross from the right but the forward puts his header just wide, when he should have done better. Some good play by Galarreta again, who pulls his cross back to Castro but the defender just clears it before a simple tap in for the home side.
HT – Las Palmas 0 Huesca 0
An even first half with both side creating very little but at least LP look lively and are pressing Huesca into making mistakes when they have the ball at the back. The biggest cheer of the first half was when 2 seaplanes passed over head of the stadium on their way to fight the forest fires.
Lets hope LP can light some flames in the 2nd half and get a win!
60mins an excellent passing move by the home team but the shot is just wide of the post.
75mins and a long ball played over the top of the home defence sees a Huesca centre forward run on to the ball who then slots his shot underneath Martinez into the home goal. Huesca 0-1.
The home side try their hardest to break down the away team defence over the last 10mins and even sent up goalkeeper Martinez for 2 corners in injury time but with no luck.
Final score – Las Palmas 0 Huesca 1
The Saint Verdict – On a night which was very warm, LP played some neat football but again lack any creative play and found it very hard to break down a well organised defence.
Their play was very similar to last season, needs to be more positive in the final 3rd and lacks pace up front. On tonight’s showing, it could be a long season if the squad is not strengthened in forward positions.
Next home match – Saturday 31st August
