Installation of the outstanding new footbridge that will link the Sanapú dock, in the main port area, with the old Mercado del Puerto, La Isleta and Las Canteras beach started at the end of May, with the first pieces that form the artistic Port Atlantic Wave structure having been moved into place. Each of the pieces is 20 meters in length, seven meters in width and weighs 20 tons.
This important new bridge reconnects one of the oldest neighbourhoods in the capital with the modern port, crossing the last section of the primary GC1 motorway in the capital, which had until now somewhat separated the two areas, particularly for pedestrians.
