Gran Canaria received more than 289,800 foreign passengers during the month of April and experienced an imperceptible drop of 0.6% (-1,700 tourists), maintaining the figures reached in the same month of the previous year, when 291,500 travellers visited, according to the latest data from AENA.

More than 60,600 passengers from the Nordic countries, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark,  travelled to Gran Canaria in April, an increase of 17.2%, 8,900 more than in the same month of 2018 which saw just 51,700, confirming the upward trend in this market in which the island continues to maintain its lead position, said Minister for Tourism of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Inés Jiménez.

Throughout April 2019, Gran Canaria received 75,900 passengers from Germany, which was 5% less than in the same month of 2018.  71,300 people arrived from the United Kingdom, a drop of 2.6%, 1,900 less than the previous year when 73,200 Brits visited.

Note the growth in the arrival of passengers from Ireland, 14% more an increase of 950 people, and from countries with less presence on Gran Canaria such as Austria with an increase of 5.7%, with respect to last year; Czech Republic, with 13% more and the group simply termed as “other countries”, which include Portugal, Hungary, Luxembourg and Iceland, among others, with a rise of 6.6% representing an extra 1,000 travellers last month.

The island received 20,500 foreign passengers from the Netherlands, down 2.5% and 530 less than in April 2018, while France maintained the levels of the previous year with 6,200 people and a rise of 0.7%. From Italy, 6,300 passengers traveled, which is a large decline of 22.4% or 1,800 less Italians flying to the island.
