It has emerged today that Guardia Civil officers from the Security Detachment at Gran Canaria Airport arrested three foreign tourists, with the initials RDJ, LW and KT, aged between 25 and 28 years old, on February 9, all suspected of a crime against fundamental rights guaranteed under the Spanish Constitution, specifically discriminatory behaviour against two people simply because of their sexual orientation.
The Guardia Civil investigation began on the 8th, when the victims who suffered the verbal aggression denounced the perpetrators after arriving at the airport; reporting that the alleged perpetrators had started insulting them during the course of the commercial flight which originated from East Midlands (United Kingdom), and that they then continued while on the bus transporting passengers from the plane to the luggage collection terminal, and provided discriptions that facilitated the identification of the presumed bullies.
After a conducting a short investigation, Guardia Civil obtained sufficient evidence to identify the alleged perpetrators and link them with the crime, detaining them after finding out that they were staying temporarily in the popular resort area of Playa del Inglés , in the southern municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana.
The detainees were placed at the disposal of the corresponding courts, in the town of Telde, local to the airport.
